Dave.. in your opinion why did the head gasket let go?

When you would make ***** out passes in the 9's... did you ever push a little bit of coolant into the reservoir? I mean before the headgasket issue got bad and the engine was running great.

Let's say I ordered a Buschur long block, o-ringed. And let's say I am running a 35R at 38 psi on VP Import. And let's say I see some coolant pushed to the reservoir and then I call you. What would you tell me?

The head gasket went from having 100+ dyno runs on it, autocrosses on it, street miles on it, 40+ psi of boost on a daily basis on it and 2 years of time. It was never re-torque'd or touched. Nothing lasts forever.

No, the car never pushed an ounce of coolant until it was on the Dynojet to see how much power it would make. I don't remember it pushing any after that though either at the dragstrip when it ran 9.65.

What would I tell you if it happened to you? Hard to say. 38 psi isn't that much boost and VP import isn't a savoir of engines. The tune still has to be right, the head still has to be torque'd properly with good head studs, the surface of the head is critical, the type of head gasket used etc. Coolant in the resevoir is suppose to happen. If the cooling system is filled and bleed correctly the car will naturally get "hot", push some coolant into the overflow bottle and then naturally pull it back out.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I haven't had my car on the road and running race fuel enough to examine things carefully. I do push coolant into the reservoir. I have pushed some out the overflow, but I do think I overfilled the system a bit after a radiator removal just to be on the safe side. So hard to say 100% what is happening. Once I get my drivetrain issues sorted out I should be able to examine things more closely.

Dave, are the $3000 short blocks that you sell designed to handle more than the 640ish that you talked about, when the sleaves MAY give out.

There are no sleeves in the blocks. Out standard Stage 3 shortblock is the exact same engine we ran 8.95 at 164 mph on, so they will handle a lot more than 640 whp.

Engines use a 4g63 block, 4g63 crank, new rod and main bearings, new balance shaft bearings (not used but they are replaced to insure a good seal), ARP main studs, Crower billet rods, JE pistons.

I know that you dont want to let all your secrets out, but I have to ask....What do you do so they dont crack, if your just using a standard 4g63 block....If you dont want to tell, I respect that. I will be buying one of your motors when it comes time anyway.

burnall4, are you asking me what we do to insure that the block cannot crack under any circumstance?
