At 119mph and a 1.6 you should be hitting 11's.Something is not right.

Guys what has 119MPH Traps and 11s ETs got to do with 4th gear trouble?

I could be wrong but if you are grinding trying to get into 4th then it could be your synchros. If you just can't get in then it could be the gear, 4th gear sleeve, or a number of other things. Either way I'm having the same problem with my car and plan to replace the gear, sleeve and synchro just to be sure.

i was just going to say that it sounds like the blocker rings or baulk rings (nissans term for them) are getting jammed up , u can try synchromesh but if that doesnt work sounds like u might needs a tranny overhaul. does it grind or u just feels stuck?

i am having the same problem lately and its horrible. Has anyone tried adjusting the clutch and or changing it. OR is it the sychros.... I have about 32k on stock clutch and will soon be getting one but wanted to make sure if that would resolve the issue. Also any suggestions on which stage 2 clutch???

I had the same problem with my IX SE that I just bought used a few months ago. I had a little resistance shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Dealer replaced 3rd and 4th gear synchros but the problem is still there. Just did the clutch pedal adjustment and it made a huge difference through all the gears. 3rd gear still has the same problem but not nearly as bad.

Does anyone know if this means time for a new clutch?

To the OP...
Have you serviced your transmission in regards to the Mitsu TSB? Its not just the 5th gear synchro that is garbage. The 3-4 shift fork is also known to crack/break. Most of the time it gets bent and you experience this slight lock out issue. It gets worse as time goes by. If you havent already, go get your dealer to perform the TSB updates. If your warranty is out, transmission rebuilders such as ShepTrans.com and TRE both offer these updates as well.

(clutch adjustments can play a part, but since you are isolating it to 4th gear lock out w/ no ill effects on the previous gears... i suspect this is your problem.) I'm no expert... but i've had my share of transmission woes...

i have the same problem with my IX MR. It started at about 27k miles with a new heavy duty act clutch put in at 20k miles. Its most 5th gear for me, it doesnt really matter what the rpms are if i ease it into 5th its ok but if i try and shift quickly it has issues shifting, not grinding issues mostly reistance and just plain not wanting to go. Where can i get performance snychros and how much will they run me? Im also putting in a twin disk non act clutch so when i get everything in ill adjust the clutch and see what helped the problem if it helps at all.
