If you look inside the mivec gear where it attachs to the cams there is a pin. If you did not get this pin in its designated whole that could be the problem. I have seen people miss the whole and just use the bolt to get the gear all the way on, and it drives the pin inside the camshaft making it so nothing actually phases the gear to the cam. Your timing marks will still show up dead on but the cam itself is out of time with the gear....Hope this helps

here's how i fixed mine (for now). i pulled out the OCV and cleaned it out really well. i then noticed that intake cam trigger needed to be "pushed" in to seat properly. i'm not sure that the 16.5ftbls of tq (per service manual) was enough to do this. so, i tightened it down a bit more, backed off, then torqued to spec.
car now idles and drives normally. but i've read that the code has been known to return. we shall see.
good luck, guys.

you can get replacement pins from Nissan, FYI.
I have talked to Greg at GSC but he swears on his mothers life that the cams are not the ones causing the problem, regardless of the multiple people having the same problem after the cam installation.
So, selling the cams seems to be a better way to resolve the issue, because greg wont do anything.
I have had the cams in and out many times and still the same problem. I have changed sensors and wasted money on things that I shouldn't have had.
If anybody has solved the issue please, share.
And yes the cames are not 180 out, and yes the pin is in the hole, and yes everything is done right!
I have had the same problem for 2 years now. The car runs fine, but I hate having the code in there.

Can this be verified by a mechanic? Not a friend who is a mechanic, not the person who did the work, but a shop that does these all day everyday? I am not being harsh but one thing I find happens often is having only one set of eyes on a problem doesnt mean much. Having as many people look at it as possible that are qualified is usually what it takes.
taking a couple days off and going back kinda helped. i dunno. i guess i figured it out eventually.
SO what parts were replaced around the cam? Something seems fishy that we have gone 8 pages and no actual fixes have came up.
Reason I ask;
A friends Evo 9 MR has this code on a set of HKS272's. We have gone thru the Diag flow chart for the code. Feeder valve passes the tests, filter is clean, we are getting oil to and thru the feeder. We have replaced the Intake Gear also. The tune was changed before the repairs so the values were less than 28.8 for the Mivec.
New T belt installed, timing marks are spot on, couldnt get any better unless you bought a brand new car. Runs great. Code was gone for 2 days before returning. Will only set when crusing in 4th or 5th, up a slight incline with between 1-3 psi.
Advice?

Bringing this stuff back...
My car is bone stock except for exhuast and intake...
And last night doing normal ppl driving... it triggered the CEL with the p0011 twice...
I took the solenoid behind the intake cAM in the pass. side(single 10mm head bolt)... put voltage to it, it was working ok. Question here... I have heard about a filter(strainer) somewhere, that should be installed in the tip of that solenoid?
The VVT oil passage that could be clogged... (fully syn since day one) where i can get a diagram of those passages so i can check those...
Thanks.

I think there is no single fix. the source was different for everyone. for me, it was an incorrectly-installed cam trigger. I guess for others it was a clogged filter or other issue.
it's been so long.. i'd have to look back to this thread for my OP. i THINK i remember it running kinda weird.. but not sure. if the cam is not reading correctly, then i'm sure the the ecu wouldn't be able to keep things running right. especially at high RPM. just a theory. i'm not expert. it would just make sense.
