Cold weather, high boost?

Having a little issue with my IX that im quite afraid of...

I live in New York and it was about 19 degrees today, and im getting some serious creep! I have the MBC set to 21 psi, but I cant tell if the creep im getting is from the new Megan 02 housing I installed, but in forth gear, I creep to 26psi on straight 93, no meth.

Is it ok to beat on it? Im alittle afraid seeing as I dont want to blow the motor from overboosting. Mods listed below.

06 IX - 28,000 miles
Buschur TBE W/ Bullet Muffler/ no cat
ETS 3.5" FMIC w/ shortroute pipes
ETS Intake pipe with filter
Cosworth IX Cams
PTE 680cc Injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Megan 02 housing
AEM Wideband
ARP Headstuds
Current Turbotrix tune, soon to be mellon
Exedy Twin disk
Forge MBC @ 21psi creeping to 26psi

That pretty much sums it up. Just want to know if its safe to run this much boost on pump gas... Thanks!

No. Turn down the boost. Cold weather does that and I've also heard that the Megan 02 housing causes it to creep on some cars.

No. You need to turn it down. What I do is set my boost on the coldest night I see during the winter. and the same for the summer. then just leave it so you know you wont overboost. Unless you go to the track or something, then you'd want it to be more exact to the current temperatures at the track.

colder air is denser air. adjust accordingly.

I believe it may be the Megan 02 housing, I have my Forge unit turned all the way down, and even when it hits 18psi, it still creeps up to 25-27psi... Maybe the wastegate port hole is too small.

Its been creeping ever since I put on the 02 housing.

yep... colder the weather the denser the air= more boost. i remember the first winter i had my car when it was bone stock and i hit boost cut for the first time, thought i blew up my motor. i have 2 hallaman MBC's, the first one i set on a night when it was only 13* and i use that in the winter on a lower boost setting and when the warmer weather comes i swap in my second one which is set to a little higher boost so i never have to mess around with them. its probably a little over the top but i got the second MBC for free so why not. i usually install the second one once its steadily 50*+

lean

take the above advise, you could very well run lean. I have an EBC on mine, its a lot easier to dial in the boost and with a hi-lo setting, you can play with it a lot better.

Turn that shizzle down if you don't have a wideband to check it with... I'm running 24lbs on 91 octane at 6300 feet elevation in 15* weather. I wouldn't boost WOT if my life counted on it. Mellon is still working on my tune. I would suggest you get with him before you go WOT again seeing as you're planning to have him tune you anyways.

Everyone on the East Coast has this problem. I had to turn my boost down a few months back. Because it's been even colder the last week, I have to turn it down before I drive it again. I saw it hit 26psi yesterday. It's been knocking lately as well, probably due to the high boost.

I do have a wideband to monitor with. Im tuned for around 24psi according to TurboTrix. When I hit 26-27psi my AFR's around around 10.7-11.1 So I dont see any severe damage comming along with it, also considering I have ARP headstuds.

I havent posted this yet, But I bypassed the boost controller and ran it off wastegate spring, and still, 25-27psi... Im definitely pinpointing to the 02 housing as I have a great deal of knowledge of the DSM's which has helped me out on this one. I believe the wastegate hole may be too small causing a backpressure in the wastegate chamber, making me creep. In the DSM world, to solve boost creep would be to dump the wastegate gases quicker, resulting in you purchasing an 02 dump or porting the hole out. Looks like Im going to take of the 02 housing and give it a shot on some port work!

I had one of those SS 02 housings on my 16g and 20g, no boost creep. Brad has another brand (can't remember which) and he has a little creep but certainly not as pronounced as yours. It'll be interesting to see if some porting will do the trick! but if it were me, I'd go with a known good brand rather than doing all of that work and taking a chance on it not helping.
