Spark Plug question
do these plugs look normal to you? I just changed the plugs, and these are the ones i pulled out of the car. they had right at 61k miles on them. the car was throwing random missfire codes right before i changed them, but with new plugs it's still doing it. should i consider changing my plug wires? also, there's a ticking noise coming from the motor...sounds like it's coming from directly underneath the plug cover but from inside the motor...no idea what it is. somebody said it is the lifters because EVO's do that, but he said it usually happens with aftermarket cams... i've got stock cams. for some reason i think it might be the injectors...any thoughts? the ticking goes pretty rapidly for about 20-30 seconds, then stops for about 3-5 seconds, then another 20-30 seconds and so on as long as the engine is running. it's not terribly loud, but it's loud enough to hear inside the car when not moving.

What plugs did you replace the old ones with? What did you set gap at? With 60K on the clock, I'd get a new set of OEM wires. Also, check vacuum lines and EGR hose for proper tight fit.

Plugs usually look that crappy after 60,000 miles.
Also at 60,000 miles the lash adjusters build up crud and start to tick, and need to be rinsed with three fresh diesel fuel washes, then filled back up with diesel fuel and put back on head. Get the FSM and do this when you buy some cams or something

My P0300 on my IX was finally diagnosed and fixed by replacing the injectors. I had previously changed plugs (twice), gapped plugs tighter, replaced OEM wireset, compression tested, returned to stock tune, returned all parts to stock, still was getting a P0300. It also got better when the did the injector cleaning / upper engine cleaning but it came back and that's when the dealer finally replaced the injectors. No issues since.

because of a new job i've had to put like 6k miles on the car in the past month and there goes the warranty..... i know we have a longer powertrain warranty, would injectors/lifters/head cleaning be covered still? the engine is still bone stock.

i did some searching and everything i could find about the p0300 code on EVO 8's said it happened in 5th gear at 3500rpm...my p0300 code happens at low rpms in 1st gear usually. it always seems to happen when the car is just sitting, or rolling at idle speeds. any clue why?
