has your idle rpm dropped recently, or has it always been that low?

+1 for knock sensor. a friend's car was doing the same thing and after a day's work (it was a PITA to get to) a new one was installed and he was fine.

I remember hearing about this in another thread. I know the answer to that persons problem was a TSB (or whatever) that mitsu had to perform. You should take it in, it shouldnt cost anything to get cleared up.

MAF interference can cause buckling and stalling idles.

They're very "fragile" sensors and don't like a lot of outside noise or vibrations. One guy on the forums had a stalling issue once when a honda with a loud exhaust sped past him, causing the evo to almost die. On the discussion of intake cone filters vs stock airbox, most agreed mitsu probably put the airbox on the evo because of how easily interference can cause issues to the MAF. Try changing back to stock airbox, see if it fixes it.

Do you have an aftermarket intake pipe? Like a metal unit?
