ARP Headstuds

I plan on running an evo IX turbo, meth inj, cams, cam gears..etc and once again Im hearing stories that I should or shouldn't change my headstuds. I'm looking to push about 375 maybe 400 and thought it would be beneficial to upgrade to the ARP headstuds. Also I heard they cause Oil leaks. What's up everyone? What's the real news?

Yes, change the head studs. And it depends, it's hit or miss if you install the ARP head studs one by one (without removing the head). Some will develop an oil leak some won't.

When I had my cams changed I had ARP headstuds installed. My mechanic replaced mine using the one by one method which you will find that 50% say it is fine and the other 50% say it will cause leaks. Well so far so good with my car I have not had any issues. I am looking to change to a IX or a green turbo and possibly meth so I will have very similar mods as you are getting. Since I also want a near 400hp daily driver. I personally like the extra insurance that the headstuds provide since I will be running higher boost and HP soon.

if your not gonna remove the head, leave the stock studs in as there really isnt any proof that the stock studs are inadequate. its not worth the risk of developing the oil leak at the HG if done by the 1X1 method. if you get the oil leak the head has to come off and HG replaced.

however if the head is coming off anyway you might as well upgrade to the ARP studs

Just change them! The 1x1 method works fine. Thats why AMS and Buschur both use it! Hmmm...the fastest and best 2 evo shops in the country trust it! It probably doesnt work right then.

Noooooooooooo. Do not change them. So many people on here that listen to **** from people who don't know. It is a myth passed down from the dsm guys. Nobody lifts heads. More harm has been done by replacing these. Unless you are taking off the head do not replace it. On your car you will never lift the head. You are a basic bolt on car and thats all you are ever going to be. save your ****ing money and dont listen to some of these clowns. Myself and a bunch of people around here have put our cars through so much more stress and have never had a problem with stock headstuds. Saying they are cheap insurance is just as stupid as me buying Valcano insurance and I live in Florida.

You dont need headstuds until you change turbo's.

I made 438/444 for over a year... 20k and fed over 60 gallons of meth thru my kit and never had any issues.

A high knock count will cause the head to lift, as long as you have a good tune there shouldnt be any issues.

Cheers!

You do not need to change the head bolts. Like a member said there have been cases where more harm has been done than anything good.
