Any front LSD solutions for 03 VIII without having to disconnet ABS?

After searching the forum it appears that for the 03 VIII installing the factory front helical LSD from the RS likely will affect the function of the ABS system. For the knowledgeable, is there any front LSD setup that would not compromise the ABS? I would like to try a front LSD for my 03 VIII but probably only if I won't have to lose the ABS. Many thanks for your help.

upgrading the diff is very common and wont affect the ABS. the abs only acts to keep the wheels from locking up.

as someone with first hand experience, a helical front diff does not affect the ABS system

Here are couple of quotes about the helical LSD and the ABS

There are also quotes countering that the front LSD was no problem with ABS, but there's no information about how many of them have taken the car on the track. In summary there does not appear to be a consensus about how well the helical front LSD works with ABS.

August 2004 issue of "Sport Compact Car" page 148

(Consider the mjost significant mechanical distinction of the RS: the helical limited-slip front diff. If you've ever read even a single page of SCC, you probably expect us to say this is the best, most important thing that could ever be put in the car. It's not. With limited slip diffs areleady in the rear and center of the car, the addition of a third limited slip is actally pretty difficult to detect in anything remsembling normal driving. In fact, for most people, the front diff does more harm than good. Since the interaction between the four wheels is now too complex for the ABS computer to predict, Mitsubishi had to leave it out.)

"Believe whomever you want, I am racing the car with the RS front lsd and it interacts with the abs much like I suspected it would. For normal street driving you will probably not notice the difference but push the limit and you will notice when the abs gets confused and resorts to ice mode - the stopping distances increase dramatically."

"Well the ABS issue is that the front LSD confuses the ABS computer. So it tends to lock the wheels up more then if you had no front LSD. From what i hear this is why the RS dont have front ABS along with the MR. I could be wrong there but im pretty sure thats what i was told. For everyday driving of course this wont affect you any but what you are AutoX and you slam on the brakes to make corner you will lock them up."

"The reason the 04 RS don't have ABS is because they have a clutch type mechanical limited slip in the rear, a viscous limited slip in the center and a helical limited slip in the front. This configuration causes confusion for the ABS as each is working independently on their own. In order to use ABS with a front and rear limited slip you need some sort of computer controller center diff. That way the computer is able to extrapolate the data for the ABS. The STi has always had a computer controlled center diff (DCCD) and thus ABS and all 05 EVOs have something similar ACD (even the MR). I don't see what changing the rear diff on your GSR to the RS is going to do, because AFAIK, they are the same. I think this also applies to the gearboxes, AFAIK, they are also the same. Only thing is you can install the RS front LSD and give up ABS, both have their pros and cons. The choice is yours....."

Hi justboosted02. Thanks for the reply.

It's nice to learn about real experiences. How would you describe the key differences between the helical LSD versus the open diff? Is there anything that you miss about the open diff (i.e., how it made the car feel) versus the front LSD? Thanks and cheers.

Get it and you wont be disappointed. as for differences in driving feel, it feels like the car will grab the pavement much better during tight turns. it really helps with keeping the car from pushing in tight corners.
