For an evo 9:

We use NGK LFR6A-11. Gap to .022.

They are copper plugs.

Affordable and work great at $25 a set.

In my boosted ITR (460whp) , i changed plugs every 2 oil changes. (6000-7000 miles)

copper plugs are super cheap though.

Are people running this as a more cost effective alternative? What's the cold rating and are there other options for copper on the IX?

EDIT: Found this post (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/4367038-post22.html)

These plugs are hotter then stock and not what you want. One range colder than stock would be LFR8

LFR6A-11
LFR5A-11
LFR6C-11

The A or the C seen after the LFR6 indicates the type of tip design. I could not find much more info then (A-C) indicates special tip design, perhaps one is a V groove and another is not.

The -11 indicates the gapping.

ultimately I think I am looking for LFR8A, LFR8B, or LFR8C....I don’t really know which, the gapping they come with does not really matter.

Again these are copper plugs, not iridium like stock. I am looking for a cheap plug that can be used when I start playing around with meth and COP ignition.
Does a colder copper plug exist?

My post above is a very good question that needs to be answered if I do say so myself!

Ive always heard that copper is the best for performance but the whole iridium thing with smaller wire etc makes me wonder on the dyno if there would be any differance on the IX with the copper versus the iridium or is the cheaper cost the only point?

They are one step hotter than stock as well, but if AMS is running it on highly modified Evo 9's there must be something else at work here.

Copper is a better conductor than iridium of spark or electricity in general the drawback is copper is a softer metal than iridium. Iridium is used especially on force induction due to it being a harder metal and the gap will not erode so quickly.

I just bought a set of the Brisk Silver plugs ( The guysa at Perrin said they work and a lot of them use them in their cars) silver is a better conductor than copper or iridium and my thought is it might transfer more voltage and keep me from having to buy Ignition upgrade. To maybe prove the spark is stronger I gapped plugs wider than iridium and so far the silver plug can spark at a gap where the irdium plug would blow out. To me so far this means that is true the better conductivity of silver allows a larger plug gap due to larger spark.

To that end the Denso IKH24 I removed ran awesome at 30psi for some 8-10k miles.

Denso has the patent and makes the smallest electrode .4mm the smaller electrode wastes less voltage in the metal itself and therefore makes a larger spark so Denso claims. The Denso's aren't quite as durable as the NGK but if they are not subjected to abuse maybe just as good if not better than the NGK's IMO
