External Wastegate on Stock turbo
I saw a post by Dave Buschur from back in 05 he tested this and found the spool was much slower.

"Tons and tons of testing trying to come up with the best possible combination for the stock turbo.
Mike pointed out that no 16g can hold 24 psi to redline in any combination, I don't agree with that. In a milder car without huge cams and having everything ported and 3" exhaust a big 16g could definetely hold up to 24 psi to redline. Might have a large boost spike but the boost at redline could be held that high. Actually the RS would probably do it if I wanted 30 psi to start with, but that isn't the goal.
With the external gate on the 10.5 housing I was able to keep the boost extremely stable, 21.8 peak with 19.8 at redline. Problem is the lag down low wasn't worth the trade off.
Trying the MR housing the car repsoned about the same as the TME 10.5 housing. Putting the wastegate directly over the MR port was better than the way I posted the pictures on here of it on the 02 housing but still not as good down low as the internal gate. Looking at the datalogs that is from quite a bit less boost down low comparing the two. In other words the internal gate makes more boost much sooner making a ton more low end power.
Timzcat,
Yes, we have 10.5 MR turbine housings in stock, they aren't cheap though. $600 for a new ported housing.
Evoutionary,
This car hasn't been on the street since last October, only strapped to the dyno. The boost usually stays the same from the dyno to the street but the spool up is effected (usually faster on the street) and the AFR's are way off going from one to another.

then i went to this

ended up with less boost, about 21psi up top. but i am still messing with it. trying to get an electronic boost controller since they hold external waste gates better

With something like that 3 port BCS you shouldn't have a problem getting whatever you want. I would think 30 would be feasible. It drops the WGDC down by a lot compared to a stock unit so there is a lot more headroom.
I was able to get 24 psi at 8k rpm on the stock evo9 turbo. see the pictures below.

or anything but external waste gates with ebc's are some times tricky to hook up. Some times you must use both ports on the waste gate. Just making sure (Sharing info).
i have a quick Question guys?...I want to know it my current set up would need a external wastegate ? I am around the 400 whp range but just like to know if its time to switch manifolds to get one with a flange and add a tial so it can hold boost longer. theses are my mods.

STi Killer: What method do you employ to control boost(EBC, MBC, BCS)? Are you running the stock wastegate actuator? How much peak boost are you running with your meth tune? How much taper are you seeing?
If you go and add up the price of a custom flanged Full Race header as well as the price of a Tial WG, then you may just be better off sending your IX turbo into FP for the EvoGreen upgrade. The stock IX turbo is notoriously taper prone anyway.
I am not sure whether the benefits of a remote gate on a stock 16G have as yet been proven on a dyno? Try porting the wastegate bypass port on your exhaust housing to improve the flow out through your internal gate. Go to a heavier duty actuator such as the Forge IX, or the FP HD unit. Another, less costly alternative to a remote gated setup might be welding up an EBay O2 housing to direct dump.
