Is my clutch starting to slip?

I drive my Evo pretty hard so I know if it isn't starting to slip then it will soon. I went to the store with my brother a little while ago & was driving it hard as usual. When we were coming home, I was in 3rd @ about 3500 or so &floored it to go arround someone. It felt like the car started to pull then slipped & started pulling again hard. I tryed it 2 more times on the way home trying to see what it was doing. It feels like the clutch slips at about 4000 & then catches again & pulls to redline. I watched the RPM the last time & it seemed to go up about 100-200 RPM & then back down when it started pulling again. Is this what people are noticing when the clutch starts to slip? I'm on the stock clutch by the way with about 18K on the car. The only performance mod is the Injen intake & IC pipes. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch, so I guess I'll have to save & get an ACT before I can get tuned .

Thought so. When I saw the RPM's go up a little when it happened I was pretty sure.

The clutch...but just to be sure go put it in 5th at a low rpm and floor it into boost and if it slips then you really need a clutch

yea, sounds like the clutch. same thing happened to my brother's car. Just drive easy for now until you replace it. The harder you drive it now, the more it will slip.

dont keep testing it.... We all agree it is..

I suggest u completly stay out of boost or youre going to kill it very fast. If u lay off the boost u can probably get another 1000 miles out of it.

Cheers!

I didn't buy an EVO to put arround in & then drive it hard 2-3 times a year when I can get to a track. That sounds like a waste of money to me. I don't abuse the car or race it, I just drive it hard when I can. By the way I have owned 6 vehicles over the past 14 years (4 were sports cars) & was only involved in 2 accidents & have NEVER street raced. 1 - I was rolling forward & looking left to see if I could turn right & bumped the van in front of me with my 5.0 (I thought he went). No dammage & he didn't worry about it. 2 - A lady backed into my mustang in a parking lot after I came arroungd the corner (her fault). I did do my fair share of stupid stuff in the Mustang & spun off the road a couple times but never hit anything (I was 17-20 at the time). So don't assume you know anything about me or my driving before you make these statements. Why does it matter how many mods it has on it? These things aren't pokey stock. I have an AMS TBE, SS o2, Megan manifold, & AEM UEGO, but am waiting till I can afford a boost controller & a tune before I install everything & dyno tune it by the way. I guess that stuff will have to wait a little while longer now. And no I don't have deep pockets, but I'm well aware that you have to pay to play & realize that the EVO has some weak spots. That just means I get to upgrade when they go.

By the way, we went to dinner & I took the EVO to see if it did O.K. with normal driving, but it is definately slipping & has gotten worse. I guess I'll have to park it for a couple weeks till I can get the clutch.
