I've never been too huge of a fan of the GT30 over other options out there. The thing is that the term GT30 is very broad. There is the 3071, 3076, 3082 and custom offerings out there like FP's 3052, 3055, 3065 etc...
What are you building for? What kind of power goals do you have?

Something that everyone should post about is their experience with trying to get broken parts fixed.
I have a buddy right now with nothing but a chipped compressor wheel on his GT30R, and can't get just the wheel replaced. He has to send the CHRA to Garrett for the exchange program for like $400. Or get a whole new CHRA. This is his 2nd CHRA service. I told him that if he plays this much and goes through parts like this, he might consider getting something that is easy to service, like an old Garrett T3/T4 or Turbonetics.

i just seen back to back test on this on a honda website and the gt30r 3076 to be on point always spool faster by as much as 400rpm i think (you prolly wouldent notice on the street) but the bw was never far behind and its also not ball bearing as the boost levels went the bw started to shine ill find the link dont be scared to learn a thing or two from hondas lol
the other thing I personally love about the BW turbos is that they seem to be built like tanks! They are built for real abuse and hold up to anything we could ever throw at it.

If 400 is all you want I would say stick with the stock turbo to be honest. You can squeeze 400 out of her.
If you want an upgrade I would say that a T04E 50, BW S256 or a GT30R would do very well for you and net another 75-100whp.

n conclusion overall the gt30r consistantly spooled 300-400rpms sooner at each boost level. the borg warner made similar power and at the higher boost levels made slightly more power. either turbo would be a great choice for someone looking to make 450-500+whp. stayed tuned for video footage of the dyno, were still figuring out the software on this new camera windows vista ftl.
Same car same manifold both T3. You can twin scroll a 30R and make it even better spooling/responding too
Imagine that
Full boost at 3500 with a 2.3 and twin scroll and 500 whp 500wtq capability.Scorke

I have been toying with the idea of B2B dyno pulls with a BB 256 or 258 against my existing T3 Garrett 3076R.
Some say stick with the stock turbo for 400hp. But, its all in what you're after. I much prefer to run 20-22psi on the 3076 and make 400hp than try to push the stock turbo that far. I d/d my car with the 3076R at this level and I'm not pushing anything. The car is rough dialed, plenty of margin and it hauls *** on top like the stock turbo just can't do. The slight additional lag increases my gas mileage significantly, and I watch this like a hawk - I drive 100 miles A DAY.
Our G50ET is based off the BW turbos now too. They are built tougher. And when your buying a turbo you want something that can handle a range of conditions and keep going. Something the BW ones seem to do well.
This is one of those things I would love to get some time to try soon. Don't know if I will. But I want B2B pulls on the same car, same tune, same day. That is usually the best way to compare.
Howdy Scorke.

nope its not and like said you can order a twin scroll 3076 i think full-race even sells them and that would make that margin of spool even bigger to me a turbo that spools slower and is heavy to is not the choice for me it would be full race twin scroll 3076 ams 2.3 and race gas day in and day out but the bw kicks *** for being what it is
