Evo 9 MR oil drain plug crush washer question

I just did my first oil change on my 9 and I noticed a bit of leakage. I got an OEM oil filter from Mitsu and a small coppper o-ring crush washer. When I removed the oil drain plug I didnt notice any washer fall into the drain pan or anything. I looked at the plug and I can see a little lip with an oring looking piece. It looks to be part of the plug as I attempted to pull it off it didnt budge. Is that the factory crush gasket? It looks like it is part of the plug so I didnt want to screw it up. I am now getting a small leak from the oil plug area. I did not put the new crush gasket on because it looked like the plug has one built on to it. Any ideas? is that part of the plug?
Thanks for any help.
(Yep I searched a read about some crush gasket posts etc, but didnt find anything that helped)

If its a copper colored piece, then it is the washer. I have seen a drain plug on my Integra that was stuck to the drain bolt, so I used need nose pliars to get it off there. It was paper thin as well. Just goes to show you, that over time the washers will wear out.

PS. What you can do temporarily, is use red rvt silicone to help the oil stay in until your next change. Then just scrape off the remaining rvt, and be sure to use the new copper gasket. That way, you dont loose $23 worth of oil.

My crush washer was silver and was so flat at one point it looked like it was part of the plug. Change that out and you should be fine.

so the plug..

so the face of the plug that mates to the oil pan, with no crush gasket stuck to it, should just be the bare backside of the bolt head..? correct? I have the drain plug with the oil temp sensor in it. It looks silver... like it is part of the plug so I was somewhat skeptical about prying on it and jacking up the oil plug if it wasnt the crush gasket. If it is the crush gasket how did you get it off?

if you can pry it by hand that means it is the crush washer. if it is stuck then it is the flat washer of the drain bolt. I had the dealer change the oil(which I can do myself) and I believe that the crush washer can be peeled easily by hand.

Ok so there is a little drain bolt washer that is fixed to the bolt itself..? I didnt check the oil pan to see if there was an original crush washer stuck to it but there was definately no copper washer stuck to the drain bolt.

The first time i changed my oil, the bottom of the bolt head had little bump protruding out a bit; the bump was slightly inside the outer circle. I was sure that it was a washer so i kept trying to pry it off. About half an hour later, i managed to get it off.

My bolt is painted black and that washer got painted over as well.

I took a small nail and i put the point of it on the washer. Then i took a hammer and lightly hammered away; making sure not to hit the thread or the flat underside part of the screw.

I dont know if the bolt is different on the MR. I believe the size is different.

Sometimes the crush washer is really in there, and you have to pry it off with a screwdriver

Yeah that is what it looks like.. like a flattened ring on the outside attached to a raised inner ring. My bolt isnt painted it is aluminum with the oil temp sensor running through the center of the drain bolt. .. so that flattened ring with the raised inner part is the crush washer? hehe i swear it looks like part of the oil drain plug. It did look like it had a little space between the plug head and the flattened portion of that outter ring.

I appreciate all the help fellas

I also didnt torque the oil pan drain bolt down all that hard in fear of stripping that bad boy out. I have a snapon torque wrench but no way to check torque because the sensor cable is in the way...

Well I got the car up on the jack and took a better look and it seems to be the oil filter that is leaking. It dripped down on the plug making me think it was the oil drain plug.

So I popped the filter off to check the seal on that... all was fine with that.. I checked the old filter and the old seal was still in that filter... tightened it 3/4 turn after the seal touched and I am still getting just a little drop on the bottom of the filter after I had done that. I am not sure if it needs to be tighter or not-as-tight. Anyone have any input?
Thanks again

take a picture , Im running same plug as you, you have to get new crush washer from the dealer and the devil charge like $1.50, pray the old one out and install the new one, thats it.

as far oil leak, clean everything off and look up, just replace oem oil filter as well,
you should tight oil filter by hand as much as you can. :d

Anyone else experienced a really slow oil filter leak? I tightend it to spec and I wiped the filter off and still see where the filter is still leaking just a hair. Any suggestions? Get a new filter?
