Turbo Timer

hey guys,

just wondering for all those who have installed a turbo timer. have any of you had any problem or issues with the installation and operation of one? I previously installed and used a Blitz DTT timer on my WRX. the only real issue is not being able to arm it while the tt is on but that's not the real issue i'm concern about. the real issue has something to do with the key and ignition part. i understand that the EVO have a key with a chip and if you were to try to start the car without one, it won't start. Seeing that a tt will basically keep the car running without the key, i was wondering if anything could go wrong with that.

another thing, i would not install the tt without a harness. a friend said that there are harnesses made for the Evo, but some splicing will be required. Other than the e-brake, why would you splice wires to installed one, doesn't that defeats the purpose of a harness? could some verify if this is true or not.

thanks alot folks.

The harness just goes into the ignition in the steering column

If you get a TT that reads other things like RPM and speed, youll need to splice. BUt splicing isnt that hard because most of them come with splice connectors

I have an HKS type 1 and i like it. It reads RPM, MPH, plus some other stuff like 0-60, 60ft, 1/8th, and 1/4mile. I did have to splice, but theres nothing hard about it. Its just time consuming having to take out the panels and what not

If you get just a regular TT and a harness, the only splicing you need to do is the handbrake

Also the TT doesnt conflict with the Engine disabler

you really don't have to splice anything other than the e-brake line, unless you want all the other features....

there is a harness, 95-99 eclipse will work for evo....and i have had no problems with mine

Yeah the Harness Made by HKS is called MT-6 i think. If you dont want to Have anything spliced besides the ebrake then you shouldnt get a TT that does anything else but the TT function. That way you dont have to worry about warranty, or messing something up, etc.

Just double check whatever harness you get against the turbo timer wiring instructions and the factory wiring diagram. I had some stalling and hesitation problems right after installing mine and the harness seemed to have two connections backwards.. can't say for sure cause after the dealer charged me $450 to trouble shoot the stalling they blaimed it on the TT and said If I left it unhooked and the problem came back they would get me a refund.... So it's still unhooked at the moment.

will you be able to lock and arm the car, while it is still running and counting down. I'm an ex-WRX owner and had to do a little mod to be able to arm the car while it counted down. Just wondering if it was the same way for an EVO
thanks,
john

I don't think the factory alarm is an issue, but I do remember reading that some aftermarket alarms did.

What do you mean by lock and arm the car? Do you mean with an Alarm or just the OEM remote that comes the car? If it's the latter then there shouldn't be any problem. Mine allows me to lock the vehicle with the remote while the timer counts down. I have the Apexi TT.

Sorry should have been more clear, I was talking about the factory alarm, whether if its just a keyless entry option, or an actual factory alarm. I just want to be able to lock it and walk away, without having to worry about it going off while i'm away. From what I've gathered from a few searches, it looks like I wont have a problem, but this stalling thing has me a little worried..............
