Adding a "cherry bomb" to my AMS TBE??
Hey guys, in my quest to make my car as quiet as when I was running my JIC Spartan exhaust, I was looking thru Summit Racing's catalog at Thrush "glass pack" cherry bomb, straight thru resonators......
I was planning on getting the 24-15" long one in T304 SS and welding it into my piping before the AMS's vibrant muffler, with hopes that this will quiet things down a bit w/o restricting flow.
what are your guys thoughts??

Get a resonator from Road Race Engineering. They are cheaper then a Cherry bomb muffler. i was looking for the same thing for my exhaust. I put a 24" resonator in instead and it cost $51 for the resonator.

I'm trying to warn you bro. A 3" resonator doesnt muffle or quiet an exhaust, it just tones it down abit. If you want a quiter exhaust note, you're gonna have to sell that AMS or weld on a really restrictive (less than 3") resonator/ round muffler. What ever you choose though, good luck.

I called AMS and they told me that it wont get any quieter, and I even have their
AMS 3" resonated test-pipe.

Only problem I see with the RRE exhaust is that it is not stainless steel. (unless they offer a stainless version?)
Some interesting thing I've learned about straight flow through mufflers is, wide body mufflers tend to quiet things down better than round body. So if you add a wide body muffler to your exhaust, then it should quiet things down. How quiet? It all depends on the size of the muffler and your personal preference to decide if its quiet enough.
I have the tanabe cat-back and resonated test pipe. Before the test pipe it was hard to tell I had an exhaust to the un trained eye/ears. Since I added the testpipe the rumble from the exhaust noise has noticeably increased. But at the same time I do have a pretty bad exhaust leak since I used the stock gaskets. I can basically see the the exhaust leaking from the cat-back to testpipe connection. I'm just waiting for it to get warmer to replace it in my garage.
But its true as mentioned earlier, with a testpipe if you stand behind the car the exhaust bass noise will shake your pants.

Don't mean to turn this into an RRE Stealth thread, but RRE does offer a stainless version. 409 SS tubing, 304 SS flanges, 304 SS resonators, 409 SS muffler (all Magnaflow mufflers are 409 SS). Its about $125 more.
Any mention of Buschur or Megan in here is absolutely rediculous. You cant mention those in a thread where the OP says he wants a quieter exhaust note. They make great power but are silly loud. Just have to remember that if it is a truly catless 3" and straight thru system, it will get you attention you may or may not want.
