I have a 2003 Evo 8 GSR. I want to know which turbo would be best suited for me as I am very concerned with spool and very little concerned with top end gain. I am only planning to run less than 22PSI with 91octane. Would a TME bolt on turbo or Evo IX turbo with install kit be better for me. I was thinking of the FPgreen with 9.0 hotside since I wont be running 22+ but that is a lot of money. Thanks.

 

If there is nothing wrong with your current turbo, why are you wanting to change? You already have the 9.8HS, which spools pretty quick.

You will get minimal if not imperceptible gains in street driving. The biggest waste of money on my VIII was upgrading to the IX turbo.

For use on ACN91 octane, I like the VIII turbo better than the IX.

 

My results directly contradict yours. I ended up with faster spool up with the evo 9 turbo and the 10.5 hotside. full boost hit 200 rpms sooner and it held in more boost uptop.
