Looking for mod advice...

Turbo install and dyno tune today on my VIII. Upgraded to a low-mile IX turbo and PPI ported stock exhaust manifold. Also added an SS eBay O2 housing; yes, the correct one.

A month ago the car had made 303hp/308trq with 91ACN on same dyno at 21.5psi.

It was a bit hotter today, even so the Mustang said 318hp/310trq at 21.5psi on ACN91. I’m a bit disappointed; I was counting on at least 20whp and hoping for even more.

I’ve searched a lot and read a lot on this forum, and I specifically selected parts that were widely used, often recommended, and had very few criticisms. My only stumble may have been the selection of the Greddy EVO2 cat-back. I’ve since modified it to be a true 3” free-flowing exhaust, so I don’t think it is holding me back.

I’m always open to ideas and suggestions. What are the weak links in my current setup? What should I choose for my next mod?

Does seem kinda low because stage 1 usually gets 320-330 whp. I would check all the fitments on the hoses to make sure you don't have a leak somewhere, maybe even change your oil. Next mod I would suggest would be cams.

biggest mods on an 8, tbe, fuel pump, mbc, hks cams, intercooler pipes 10.5 hot side, drop in filter, and a tune, that should be good for like 11s on race gas..honest opinion 9 turbo is a waste shoulda sprouted for a green

I cant really suggest your next mod HOWEVER, please set a realistic goal for yourself. Myself and too many others have spent THOUSANDS of dollars just trying to make more power. It starts with a cat back, boost controler, flash, etc. A year later youve spent 20k... Sorry to get off track, just please set a goal, get there, and enjoy it..

Green would of been a better choice. Next steps are alky and fmic, to max out your new turbo. If you would consider a bigger turbo in the future, you may want higher duration cams(272's,280's..)

You need some cams. Get some GSC S1's. Those are good numbers on a Mustang dyno but I would expect a little bit more.

It was tuned at a local performance shop. They seem to know what they are doing, although I think they have a lot more WRX experience than with EVO. I did ask for a conservative tune. AFR was a pretty flat 11.5:1.

I have the non-adjustable recirculating Forge BPV - not the adjustable RS model.
It has the lighter weight spring. Boost seems normal - 22psi tapering to ~20.

Jim,

I spoke with Archy from IAperformance this week and the told me that the Dyno has been recalibrated to a brand new complete method. Call Steve and he will explain it to you.

I have seen many many dynos runs and I am telling you that your numbers are very strong.
Remember a Evo8MR stock put down 217whp/250tq on that same dyno and a bone stock 04 STI put down 228whp/238tq.

Botton line, I still see your numbers very very strong, for god sake, our Evo 9 made 304whp/304whp with the same mods minus cams and 02 housing.

Honestly Jim, your 318whp is a great number considering your mods. The torque will comes in the name of methanol injection. Send me a PM, there is a local Evo friend selling his 03 bolt on Buschur SMC methanol kit for cheap (around $300). Take the advantage of the methanol and optimize the power/torque on your Evo9 turbo.

As per Steve at IAperformance, he is a very competent guy and has been doing tunning for years, you are in good hand with him.

Carlos
