The car's making a really weird metallic/chirping sound when I'm at about 1/2 throttle right before boost comes on, it's really hard to describe..

it's almost like a very light, high pitched ringing, and it comes from the front right side. when i give it more gas the sound goes away and the boost "whoosh" comes out. any ideas? i tried searching but this kind of thing is really hard to look for

I just recently noticed it but
all fluids maintained properly, cars got about 17k miles on it, Hallman MBC set at about 21~22, AMS base flash, K&N cone style air filter..

Part-throttle fluttering from the BOV? It's very standard unless you mean something else. Part-throttle/partial boost doesn't work too well for us.

no no, this is different. there's some sort of ringing coming from the right side in the front. very light.
the flutter from the bov is very distinct - this is a metallic ringing, very light, almost sounds like a bell, right before the boost

 

It sounds like air escaping from a compressed cylinder right before it goes to 0 psi doesn't it? I think this is a normal thing when the turbo is right on the edge of making boost.

Make sure it isn't the transfer case. Mine went bad at 45k miles and it started like that. Just be sure that you are changing the fluids in the Xcase every 10k miles with Mitsu oil, it is a special oil. Hope this helps any future noises.
