BC 272 to HKS 280's

have a question for u guys right now i have BC272s in my evo 8. (Little backround about a month ago i put FPgreen and ams 680's in my car, had a friend just copied a map from his car to mine for the scaling of the 680's so it would run and be ok. Car is on 18psi and we data logged it and there is no knocking. Car was tuned for the 272's but have since added the FP green and the injs)

Im looking to intsall HKS 280's on the car this week in preparation for an upcoming tune at Ivey in a week or two. I know must people will respond with just get it done when u get tuned. But i will have to pay $300 bucks to get them installed when i have a friend that will do it for free.

So my question is do you guys believe i will have any problems with the car running when i put the HKS280's in? I know it will start and run and given the fact that my car is pig rich im not affraid of it blowing up or anything, but my biggest question would be do think it will be drivable for the next two weeks? I know some of you guys have put cams in before u got tuned and did u have any problems with ur car after you did?

Thanks for the help guys

If anything just bump your idle settings up a little and stay away from 7k pulls

Just to put it in there, this guy is wrong. I ran the 280's in my stock motor for every bit of 10k miles with no issues.

^^ Yea you'll be fine untill you hit higher RPMs and your valves start to float

You are wrong. Whoever told you that is wrong. Move along.

OP, i switched from HKS 272 to 280. Couldn't be happier. The car will definitely need to be retuned. Not just AFR, but timing as well. So if you don't have a wideband and you don't monitor knock - you can go ahead and swap the cams but stay away from WOT. You'll be fine just driving around with low to no boost though.

hks 280's have the exact same lift as 272's, just longer duration....so no, you don't need upgraded springs...I already said this to bill, but i wanted to say it for the people who say you NEED springs for hks 280s

Sorry tough guy I stand corrected. I never looked at the specs to know that the lift on thier 272's and 280's are the same.

In that case 100% you'll be fine its with higher lift cams you run into coil bind issues.

to a certain few of you that "know everything" this is taken directly of hks's web page...I think I'll go with what the manfacturer of a product tells you is needed and suggested

..".factory valve train components. However, due to the higher profile of HKS camshafts, HKS high performance valve springs are highly recommended, and required in certain applications."

word to wise don't outright say someone is wrong when the maker of a product tells you...yes you can get by with not doing it buy why risk your investment foolishly?

I didn't get all the lines I wanted from the HKS web page so here is a link to it

ok.

It said applications. Did you look at how many cars were listed on that site? Each car would be a different application. Though it never stated which ones were required.

Also, I'm sure every cam manufacturer would recommended upgraded springs, but it is not required or neccesary for a fair amount of selections.
