Help...Boost spikes

Guys

I think I have a serious problem at hand. When I try to redline say 2nd gear, rpm hits about 5800 (boost @19.xx psi), rpm suddenly drops to 5000 and so does boost (accelerator still depressed), then goes back up to redline. Turbo spool feels very different...it works extra hard and fast to 19.xxpsi and then just drops...

Please give opinions.

Ben

Sounds like either a loose hose that letting boost out or fuel cut, but the boost is not that high to cause fuel cut.

Check all the IC hoses and especially the hoses at the diverter valve. And on that subject, is it the stock DV or aftermarket?

Hi Timzcat

I'm sorry I'm not sure what a diverter valve is. However could this loose hose be the problem? This problem only started after I did 2 runs on the 1/4 mile strip tonight (actually 5hrs ago)

Thanks
Ben

That is the breather hose, it goes into the intake duct between the MAF and the turbo. Yes it could be a problem since you will be sucking in unmetered air into the trubo and it is throwing off the ECU. Easy to put back on.

Oh, DV is the Blow off valve. The black thing right under the upper radiator hose. But the breather is probably all your problems. (well with the car, since I don't know you) j/k

What did you run?

Thanks Timzcat

About the breather hose, can I just seal it noe that I have a different intake system? Btw, I ran a 12.967 @105.01.

OK

I've attached the hose. Got to go test the car now. Hopefully everything will be ok.

The whole car just feels different now. Boost is coming in way too fast and then drops. seems that rpm drops with boost at like 6xxx rpm. Please give me more suggestions. Should I bring it to a dealer? My current mods are:

HKS Turbo back exhaust
Xede box
Evc 5 Boost controller
Hks racing suction kit

Thanks for your time

I still think you have a boost leak somewhere.
Check all your intercooler hoses and make sure the clamps are good and tight. This is not uncommon for them to be loose.
Check the DV/BOV hose clamps especially. This has come up on a couple of peoples cars already.

am I the only one that see's that he has a boost controller? You need to tune the boost controller to the car... it isn't just a thing that you slap on and expect it to work.

Yeah I saw it. I was assuming it was set to like 19 from his first post. He shouldn't be hitting fuel cut at 19.

Hi Bryan

The boost controller was installed 2 months ago and I played around with the boost ( 19-21 psi) . There was never any problem with it. Any other suggestions? Is ther esomething wrong with the turbo or ecu???

I did experience a loose bov hose before and the boost leak was very different. With a loose bov hose, the boost will hit like 5 psi and refuses to move (loud leaking sound can be heard). However with this current boost leak or fuel cut, boost gain is very high/fast. Rpm just doesn't move up constantly anymore....the rpm drop in the middle is like i'm changing gear at 5xxx rpm when the accelerator is still floored. Let me try to illustrate further

Normally: vroooooom to 7000rpm
Now: vroooom (5XXXrpm).....1sec pause....vrooom to 7000rpm

I have yet check the intercooler hoses as I have no idea how to remove the front bumper. Also I have even put the stock airbox back in thinking it was something to do with MAF but as usual, no luck .

Now I'm wondering if its my boost controller screwing up being fuzzy logic and stuff.

Please guys, any input will be greatly appreciated.

Ben

Well to figure out if it's the boost controller or not turn off the boost controller... I would suggest removing the Xede box then going for a spin to see if it's that POS or not
