quest for COLD air (long)
As some people here know Im putting together my evo much like alfriedesq car...3037s kit etc....Im in south florida where its hotttt...after several responses from Alfried on these message boards i realized those intercooler sprayers could be worth as much as 50hp...thats alot....but filling up a bottle every 12-13 seconds of use....isnt economically feasible (40 bucks/12 seconds of use) and its a pain in the *** dropping off bottles...trust me I have a zex infused lightning and its a real pain in the *** always filling up the bottle dropping it off etc...well...Im an old Typhoon/GN guy at heart (I dont own either anymore) and I remember the freon intercoolers which had a similar effect, http://www.coolflow.com
These guys make liquid intercoolers and chillers that bring the core temperature down below freezing...but consistantly....all the time...if you chose to switch it on...Im thinking of maybe a group purchase to bring down the cost.....Im talking to the guys at SPD in california....seth is basically a genius when it comes to this stuff...he said he may consider making a kit if the demand is high enough....for all those nay sayers out there...the 2004 lightning will have a similar intercooler that will be standard ont he truck helping push it to 500 hp...here is a link http://www.coolflow.com/NEWS-FLASH.html, I know this sytem isnt exactly the same but its the same idea....if cooler temperatures can add up to 50hp.....we should get some of the techys on here to figure something out...or consider a group purchase...just my 2 cents

the cost will be somewhere around 1800...but not sure of an exact price...I would imagine it could be a retro fit for all cars.... thinks its more of an indication of interest that they wanted...
Count me in as being very interested. This could be the true bang for the buck mod for our EVOs. Depending on performance increases, $1800 for maybe 50HP would be a bargain. The best thing is that it should deliver similar performance gains no matter your current state of tune. For example 50HP over stock or 50HP over 350WHP.

I really hate to possibly discourage such an interesting idea such as this, but a supercharged V8 truck is a very different sort of application for this technology compared to the EVO.
Are there any existing applications for this system on small four cylinder turbo engine? I guess what I am asking is how efficient would this system be in this situation?
I'm thinking the added weight and torque loss during part throttle may not be a big deal in a big, heavy, V8 torque monster, but on a turbo four cylinder compact?
Also what happens when you do want to perform sustained full throttle/high speed driving like in a road course event?
Would you also keep the front mount intercooler? How much does all this additional equipment weigh and how much torque doe the compressor use? Is there a limited RPM range for the compressor to operate in? That could be a problem in a high RPM four cylinder.
I have seen an air to water intercooler system melt (and turn hot)a 30 gallon cooler filled with ice water in a matter of seconds, what size chilled water reserve would this system use?
I never quite understood the logic of spraying cold gas on the intercooler. I understand the idea, but if your going through the trouble of setting up a spray system, why not just spray nitous into the intake like everyone else? It has the same basic effect and it's far more efficient.
Additional cooling systems, nitrous, they all seem to have draw backs, I guess no free lunch.
I really do hope this works out, it sounds interesting, it's just my nature to play devils advocate, just making sure you all have considered the potential problems with this before you spend a lot of time and money.
