what to upgrade on my evo 8 turbo?

so i want to achive 300 whp (or more) in my 2003 lancer evolution. so far ive got 3 inch down pipe, test pipe, 3 inch catback, kn drop in filter, brian crower 272 cams (not installed) perrin mbc (not installed) jdm mr metal bov (not installed) with that said.

i would like to have as less turbo lag as possible so i thought it would be a good idea to stick with my stock turbo. and to my question what should i change out on my stock turbo?

and are there any different hotsides to buy other than the 10.5 that comes on the other evo 8's?

upgrade to an EVO 9 turbo, port your stock exhaust manifold, get rid of the K&N filter get a real CAI. Install the cams.

With a good tune you should be @ 325whp

if you really want the least amount of lag possible, then get a 6.5 TME. 300whp is cake for these cars and the TME's lighter compressor wheels will spin up faster than your stocker

You can easily achieve 300+ WHP with the mods you listed. I would keep the stock turbo for now....

No offense, but it doesn't seem like you know too much about the car, or what a 6.5 TME or compressor wheel is. I would keep it simple and learn the basics first.

If you really want search for the closest reputable tuning shop with an AWD dyno within a reasonable distance. It shouldn't take more than a couple hours to install cams, an MBC and a BOV and do some dyno tuning.

best of luck!

I wouldn't do it for 300whp that can easily be done without a turbo swap.

Spend that money on having the parts installed then tuned and you'll be there no problem.

...I would guess about 320-335 WHP with that setup and a proper tune.

No one mentioned the need for a fuel pump to keep it from starving at higher rpm. Not that it makes hp, but it certainly feeds it. That and a good tune and you should see low 300's on pump.

walbro 255 fuel pump is a must especially for 2003, they have the weakest fuel pump among 03-06...cheap insurance if u ask me, it will support 300+hp easy. depends on what dyno you are using also and the tuner...you might get close to your goal of 300hp on a mustang dyno, with the mods you mentioned...

You're going to have the kid barking up the wrong tree with statements such as the above. In fact, the TME turbo features the same 16G compressor as his stock USDM VIII turbo. Where the TME differs is in the turbine wheel which is made from lighter, titanium-aluminide alloy, as opposed to the stock 16G's heavier inconel turbine wheel.

If the '03 Evo has a stock turbo then it is equipped with a 9.8 hotside which should be faster spooling than the 10.5 hotside. The IX turbo, with its improved compressor housing design will have better topend performance than a 9.8 configured VIII turbo, however, this does not necessarily mean that it will spoolup as quickly.
