Idle
What is the idle rpm for the EVO? I remember reading somewhere on the forum that it is 900rpm or at elast near or under 1000. I remember checking my car and it was indeed in that range. However I checked today and it was 1100. Is this normal?
The rpms will be higher when u just turn on the car. When i gets cold in the morning, my rpms will be up to 1500... I believe to help warm up the car. Was your evo at operating temp when you checked your idle?
I'll double check, but I'm pretty sure mine idles at 900 when fully warmed up.
During cold start the vehicle will run rich (more so than usual) and with a higher engine speed to obtain efficient engine temp quicker and warm up the cats. I believe it's a closed loop cycle using coolant temp sensor with IACV. Someone help me if this is wrong.

Are all accesories turned OFF when you guys are looking at the idle speed? A/C, deffoger, radio, head lamps...
I finally checked mine after being good and warmed up. It actually appears slightly lower than 900, 800-850 aproximately. The needle has a fat end and who knows what the calibration is.

OK, I just check the tech manual. Here's what it says:
"The vehicle should be prepared as follows before the inspection.
-Engine coolant temp: 80-95 C (176-203 F)
-Lights, ELECTRIC COOLING FAN and accessories: OFF
-Transaxle: Neutral
blah blah blah
Idle speed standard value: 850 +/- 50 rpm
NOTE: The engine speed may be 20 to 100 rpm lower than indicated above for a new vehicle [driven approximately 500 km (300 miles) or less], but no adjustement is necessary.
NOTE: If the engine stalls or the engine speed is low even though the vehicle has been driven approximately 500 km or more, it is probable that deposits are adhered to the throttle valve, so clean it."
blah blah blah, then it goes on to say adjust the idle speed if not correct.
I highly suggest you DO NOT mess with the idle adjust screw unless you are using the Mitsu scan tool. It will control the IACV to make sure it is held in place and not affecting idle. Also make sure when checking your idle speed that your cooling fan is NOT running.
Hope this helps some people.

My idle seems to change when I change octane.
I run anywhere from 94-100 octane.
It corrects itself after a while.
The a/c also changes idle.(Or any other load I would guess)
My car has stall a couple of times.(in 10000 miles)
I am not too concerned though (yet)

All of your idle's are about right. The ECU in the evo will adjust the idle, sometimes upwards to 1500 or so, even when hot. Depending on how long the car is idling, sitting still. To test this, let your get hot (dirve it :-) and then let is sit and idle for a couple of minutes, it will adjust up and down. yes the A?C and accessories change this a little, but it mostly has to do with emissions.

(by the way, have about 3K in mods on the EvO, and it will run with the other two...amazing car)
