To keep or not to keep...HKS 272 or 280s???

Well i decided to go to a bigger turbo, from my ETS 57trim to a 61mm s-cover turbo. I was thinking if i should change out my cams to HKS 280s or just keep my 272s that I have currently in my car. I guess my question is will i see a significant difference in the 280s with this turbo and can some of the Evo GearHeads tell me how much more power you may see from changing it out???? My mods are found here:

280's should wake that big boy up. I believe Alan (Local to SD) just install his new 58 trim and had the HKS 280s already running his Green. With a 61mm, I would think 280s would be a perfect combo.

I would talk to alan (alan678), he's a local tuner as well. It's hard to say "how much will I gain" since your changing your Turbo. I would think between ETS and English Racing, you should get a good estimate.

i know people who are telling me changing from a 272 to 280s on a 35r will net you a little more power up top but not too much.....maybe some tuners who done tests on the 35r with both cams can chime in.....

I'm no scientist in this area, but I believe you have to consider ultimate use of the cams for your set-up and when you need the power (i.e. - early on or later in the RPM range). For autox'ers, we need the torque to be on demand and a quicker spooling cams are ideal. Now for the track, a wider curve and later spool up is ideal due to the need of topend power. There's a nice article in this month's "Turbo" magazine that compared the HKS, Crane, and ...I can't remember the last set of camshafts. It's surprising to see the curve comparisons of a set of 272/272 vs. 272/264 vs. 280/280 camshafts installed and ran on the same car. It's just food for thought.

Hey bro to be totally honest I went from an HKS 272 to a GSC S2 on a stock 9 turbo and on my pump gas tune my car feels just like my methanol tune acroos the powerband. I fee no loss in low end so im sure that it will wake your 58 trim up. Also note I do plan to upgrade my turbo soon too which is another reason I opted for S2's so GSC S2 gets my vote

HKS 272s are very mild cams...if you want more power look else where

get rid of the HKS cams, they have the same lift as STOCK. Any cam with more lift is going to be way better then HKS in the upper rpm's. I hear good things about GSX s2's, Jun's, buschur cams, cosworths,

go 280's. I should have done that initially. The HKS 280's are not as aggressive as most would think, now jun and tomei big cams are a different ball game and NEED upgraded springs etc. If your staying below 7800rpm, go hks 280s. HAVE IT DONE RIGHT!
