what the 4th gear?
what the 4th gear?
I searched but I cant find anything like what is going on. I have an appointment already at USP at 6:30 today to do a complete fluid change to hopefully rectify the problem that came out of no where.
This morning I do what I always do, hop in the Evo (MR if it matter on this topic). Start her up and let everything warm up. I NEVER drive it until it is warm, then I drive it another 10 minutes nice with no boost for another 10 minutes to warm up the trans.
Well this morning i did all of the above and then go from 3rd to 4th and the fuggin thing wont let me put it in 4th gear??? What the heck? So I put it in 5th, no problem, no problem with EVERY other gear as well. This has completely come out of no where and I wasnt driving it fast when it happened or before hand either....
So I figure it was just a fluke and drive to work with no problems because I just skip over 4th. Perk it and work from 10am till about 3:30 when I decided to go grab something to eat. I go outside and do the warm up procedure and pull away, alot of traffic so I couldnt check out 4th until the tranny was for sure warmed up and the same thing again, drive for another couple of minutes and vuola I get 4th WTF this is really pissing me off.
I have a Exedy Twin HD in last time fluids were changed was at about 12K on the clock and now I have 23K so I know its time hence the USP appt.
Has this happened to anyone? Anyone have any ideas on what it is.
Thanks!

Maybe an adjustment is in order then??
No, but I can tell if I tried to it would grind like crazy so i just skip over it.
I like the 6spd, the "problems" are the one of the longest arguments on this forum...

So I went to USP/AWD Motorsports yesterday and met Mike, I have to say he is a real laid back nice guy and had my car in and out in a flash
. Got all of my fluids changed and the tranny is noticably running cooler per the gauges which is a plus.
The AMS underhood shifter bushings make the shift fell alot more percise and not as sloppy as it was before.
Mike drove it and so did one of his techs and they didnt have the 4th gear problem I was having, so when i picked the car up the first time I hit 4th it went right in. Got to the stop light and got to 4th again and got locked out again! this has nothing to do with USP or the fluids I dont even think. What I think it is, is the clutch line may still have some air in the system somewhere and just in 4th it isnt fully disengaging. So this weekend, maybe with 4WS I'm going to bleed the system and see if this solves the problem and adjust the pedal a little to remedy it.
If not its off to Mitsu
to do a recall on the tranny
Mike thanks again for all your help and having me in and out quick and taking my car later in the day I appreciate it and will be back for those Juns to be installed

tranny is fixed!!!!!
Just needed to raise up the clutch a bit and the problem was solved.
Reminder to those with after market clutches, remember to raise your pedal a bit to avoid this problem.
Cheers!

Has the problem come back? (i assume not)
I am having the same issue. It locks out of 4th only, no grinding or anything. It really feels like the gate just doesn't open (like there is no 4th gear).
I've tried double clutching, taking my time and it doesn't really go in.
Clutch is a Tilton twin disk.
