Stolen thoughts from Simon Norris on T04Z
Well two things... I think engine dynos can be loaded however you want. So you'd have to suspect Norris would set it up so it was similar to the load you'd see on the road. Norris isn't trying to sell anything here... like many vendors... he is just answering questions about his own build.
Secondly, he says it spools better than a GT35R... regardless of how the dyno loads the engine, it's interesting to see someone say they've essentially found a GT35R killer.
I agree with the essence of your comments Whoop_Ass... just pointing out that I think the results here are more true than the false.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't "buy it". Just like everything else, turbo technology improves. The 35r is not the end of turbo development.

Well we have tested a few versions of the T04Z wheel, maybe not in Norris' configuration but none the less similar found here:

And
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&highlight=dtm
The basis was something large than a 37R and smaller than a 42R with a 94mm exducer.
The results were great. The T04Z is a great turbo if setup properly with the right head work and bottom end rpm capacity.
Now The standard 35R is a great turbo, BUT there are many good options out there now.

and to others that are questioning the T04Z in comparision to the GT35R, who cares?? if someone like DTM can supply you with a turbo kit that will out spool and give more power then what dose it matter what turbo they are using?? lol
Chris.
Right, just like ALL Dyno numbers. Dyno numbers only compare directly with other numbers made on the same Dyno. Incidentally DLL numbers compare great with DLL numbers.

This is correct but just remember that when I put a T04Z on my 2g back in 2004, it was the only choice in regards to a BB CHRA T67/P trim. The variants from the other turbo companies in the US started coming out around 2006.
The HKS T04Z also used a T4 divided housing (unlike most of the current variants who use the T3). Again nothing that you can't get made here now in the US but it was unique at the time.

And sadly this is what happened to the car today
