Help with axel back

I've been searching and haven't really come up with anything. I'm wanting to know if anyone sees a downside to just going to the muffler shop and having them make me a pipe to take the place of the muffler. They can do it for about $20-$30. I've already taken the muffler off so I know how loud it is. I don't see much difference between that and something like what works offers. I just can't afford to spend that much on it.

The only thing I saw there was an axel back with a muffler. I just want a pipe with no muffler

Go for it. It might not look as good and might not be mandrel bent but for $20-30 what the hell. If it's not mandrel bent make sure they use a 304 steel that has a large enough diameter to keep the bend diameter from becoming to much of a restriction.

So would having a muffler shop custom make a cat-back exhaust be a bad idea?

IMO, no. It might not be as fine tuned and dyno tested like the vendors products, but you'll save yourself $150-$800 depending on which vendor product you look at. Exhaust can't be THAT difficult to produce, especially when they're only making aproximately 10hp...most of which I believe is from the muffler.

I say if you want to save some cash and go with a cruder method, more power to you! Just make sure you get all stainless piping.

I figured that it wouldn't hurt, but wasn't 100% sure.

Just something that popped up in my head and was curious. Thanks fellas.

Yeah, no kidding. You could do the same thing with Borla mufflers too. Just go find what size inlet and outlet you need and rather or not you need a tip and you're set. There's potential to save a LOT of money!

You might be interested in a Borla XR-1 multi-core muffler. The patented technology allows you to acheive an unmatched combination of sound and power. We use an XR-1 multi-core muffler specially tuned for the EVO8 in the cat-back we are about to release for the Lancer Evolution VIII. The Borla part number for our new XR-1 EVO8 cat-back is 140056.

If you're only interested in the XR-1 muffler, you can purchase it seperately. The multi-core is a patented design that only Borla offers.

You can find them for less at Jeg's.

The moderators of this site have been really cool with me and I think it's against their rules for me to post a price. So, Call Dan at mach5 703-237-0900.

Or, email me at davidb@borla.com for more info.

Thanks for your interest!!!
