Pulstar Spark Plugs

Okay, so its time for me to change my plugs. I managed to foul them to the point of breaking up/missfire during hard shifting complete with bumper melting 1 foot flames. Lately I've been hearing alot about pulse plugs. For those who don't know reputable magazines are claiming 5-15 wheel hp (on N/A cars grant you) gains from changing perfectly good factory plugs to pulse plugs. The magazine I picked up had a 350Z/G35 on the dyno with 10hp gains. They are even claiming up to 2% increase in gas mileage. Both car & science/tech magazines support these plugs.

My question is, has anyone used a set of these plugs? Either on an evo or any forced induction car?

They have alot of very convincing data/tests under there belt, but I just cant seem to find anyone that actually runs a set. On a side note it would seem to me that running these plugs would probably cause a VERY slight loss in ignition timing (~<1 degree due to the capacitor charging, which would be dependent on rpm). However we would gain a longer spark event, assuming I grasp how these things actually work.

For convenience here is a link to there site: http://www.pulstarplug.com

don't do it! Several ppl have gotten messed up heads from installing these. NGK plugs will be more than sufficient.

They tested these in a magazine... don't remember which one, but on an Evo it made something like 5 - 10whp.

I don't know any Evos that run these. If anybody happens to know those several people, can you get them to come in and chime in on the matter.

the more i read, the worse these plugs get.

plug gap changing due to heat, plug components melting. Unusual detonation, I'm sorry i started this thread.

it seem these $100 plugs will gain you 1hp & last a month. Probably wouldn't even make it off a dyno on a big turbo car.

I've never heard of them, thus would never try it. Been using BPR8 NGK coppers for awhile. Coppers are cheap and you won't worry about something exploding causing damage to your engine/turbo. Use something that's reputable in the community. There's plenty of good feedback and data on the NGKs.

I agree, I'd stick with regular plugs. You could always get an ignition amplifier if you need more spark.

Honestly i can see those plugs wearing out fast or even breaking the insulator on that during install.

The standard plug that we use has been a proven design that has survived though the ages...the only plugs i have seen that are more reliable are Aircraft Igniters...but no one has the money for those plugs...and ALOT more power runs though those.

My buddy put these in his RSX S. Night and Day difference in throttle response he said. He also mentioned that the car is idling alot better to..

Not sure how they would be in an EVO. Im sticking with my coppers at 1.XX a plug

There is a thread over on EFI-101... long story short the "magic" plugs blew out under high boost levels. They would work in a stock EVO. If you do not mind the price... go for it.

the one they sell for the evo, as reported here is the longer version made for a IX and when the guy used them in his VIII it damaged his head.
There is one also stated in that thread that would be VIII compatible.
lets see who is willing......

Something is wrong with that Evo Dyno chart.. the hp and tq dont intersect at 5252 .

Thats because the torque and horsepower are scaled differently on either side of the chart. If they were both scaled the same (up to 410 or 345) then they would cross at the correct point. I'm not defending these ****ty plugs, just helping you understand how to read the chart.

Thanks mixmastermatt, didn't know that. I was told if I ever saw a dyno chart that didnt cross at 5252 then it was likely someone was trying to pull the wool over your eyes.
