New TB gasket & still leaking?

I installed a 65mm TB & new modified gasket (for 65mm TB). There is a bad leak from the front side of the TB. I ported the inlet to the Intake to match the TB & in the process scratched the face of the manifold in a couple places. When I was finished I sanded the face smooth. I sanded it rather lightly with a block, but I'm guessing I may have over done it or not gotten it perfectly flat. After finding the leak which was obvious at 10 PSI I trimmed my old gasket to match & reinstalled it. The leak is the same so I don't know what to do. Can I use a gasket sealer on the TB/intake or do I have to pull the intake & get it machined? Any other ideas or help would be greatly apreciated. By the way the leak is definately the gasket area. I sprayed some windex on the TB & the bubbles were coming from the gasket & not the shaft seals.

i always apply some rtv to both sides of the tb gasket. it's cheap insurance. just get some permatex hitemp rtv & that should help your situation.

just be certain to use brake clean both the intake & tb mating surfaces & clean the gasket too.

good luck.

Thanks Aby. Thanks for all your help & information along the way. I was going to PM you, but decided I'd see if I got an answer on the forum first. Go figure you would be the one to respond anyway. I just happen to have a tube of that sitting in the garage. I just didn't want to put it on without knowing if it was a bad idea. I'll put it on & go to lunch to give it time to dry. How long should I wait before I test it again.

did you peel off all the old gasket/residue off the tb and manifold?

anyways i had this problem on my rsx when i installed a new intake mani but the problem was, i didn't have a new gasket to go on it. i used permatex without a gasket and obviously it wasn't the cure but the idle didn't fluctuate as much. it was enough for me to drive and get a new gasket for it. i would wait a couple of hours to be safe...i left mine overnight. just be sure not to get sloppy with it because you dont want any of that getting sucked through the tb.

there shouldn't be any leak and you shouldn't need any permatex unless the mating surfaces do not match right or you didn't clean off the surfaces before putting on the new gasket

gl though

did you check to make sure you wernt hearing a leak from the throttle plate shaft seals. wiggle the throttle shaft next time you do a boost leak test, it the leaking noise changes with the movment of the shaft, you know the seals are leaking. its very commen.

It's a newly modified TB with new Works seals in it. The Permatex fixed the problem. Holds boost fine now. Thanks for all the help.
