detonation?
thanks for the responses
I have BPR7ES plugs that are gapped the way they came out of the box. I did not adjust them. The plugs where changed less then 5,000 miles ago when i got a tune-up. This event does not happen so often its more random then anything which leads me to believe in the misfire. Seems to happen more under higher load, since at lower rpm wot produces the event more regularly then say a straight rip threw 4 gears.
-- Should i get new ones and re-gap em? If so to what distance should the gap be adjusted? I hope that it is this simple, from my experiences with cars nothing usually is.
The car threw a P0300 (random cylinder misfire) at idle, three times over the span of 4 months. I used the CReader to clear the code, left it UNPLUGGED, and since then the code has never come back. What sucks is that the car, under these suspected misfire events, does not throw any codes..... which imo is spooky.
Tactrix cable has been ordered and I will soon log it and post the results. Should be neat to se what a misfire looks like numerically. (im a math major) what eslse do I need inorder to pull the data from the ecu and flash data To the ecu? I am going to go with the mail flash perhaps either that or Sean Ivey. Anyone get a Mellon Tune that could PM me about there experience? Im a little worried about blowing my car up :\
I'm thinking it could very well be a ****ty tune, since the curves look to use some improvement. Especially up top from 4,850 rpm onward there is that dip then it just flattens off where i think it should get more.
Once again thanks for reading threw my long posts and lame questions-after-questions. Im happy to be a part of this community and I hope to be able to help others as I have been helped.

If you want to learn more about people's experiences with Mellon Tuning try this:
1) click on search (above)
2) click on advanced search
3) search by keyword Mellon and set the option to search titles only
that should narrow it down to reviews mostly...I found 48 related threads. I hope that helps.

If you run under ~22-23 psi, get fresh BPR7 plugs and gap them at 0.026
If that doesn't solve the problem - reduce the gap to 0.024
If you have a WB, misfires should produce spikes in WB signal.

I just today received my TacTrix cable!! Im going to search the forum as to what software I need and what pulls and conditions I will ned to be logging under.
Mellon thanks to the government stimulus check I will be shooting you a PM about tuning my baby.
Im going to get new plugs.. and ugh I got my oil changed and now it sounds like lifter tick baddddd. Stupid ***. I'm hoping it just did not pump up with oil fully yet, hopefully it does soon as i have not driven it many miles yet. Also i hope i didn't fuxor the engine. The log should shed some light on all my issues..

If I lived as close to Sean Ivey as you do, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd just make an appointment and have him tune it. This should solve all your issues as they are a qualified full service shop and Sean is undeniably one of the finest Evo tuners in the country. Mail-ins are for less fortunate people who live outside the 500 mile radius.
Don't just toss NGK coppers in w/o checking the gap as they are quite variable out of the box. The Iridiums you don't gap, but with the coppers, it's a must.
I think that as someone else above mentioned, you are hitting fuel cut. The rev range in which the event occurs sounds about right for fuel cut. This would mean that you are running way rich.

got to get a clutch so that i can data log the car. As it is now the car wont hold more then 13 psi before the clutch will give. ****ing sucks. Costing me a bit. Launching it all those times was almost worth it tho
Absolutely you must gap on the coppers for any high perf expectations.
