JIC exhaust came off while driving

I was picking up my brother from work, when next thing I know, I hear a loud clank, scraping, and then my car sounded like it was running without a cat. When I got back home, I look under my car to see that the second piping of my JIC exhaust came off the first piping - even though the clamp was still on the second pipe! Now I had a badly scraped pipe, a big *** dent in my canister, and a ****ed up hanger. The exhaust was hanging onto 1 hanger! I'm in the process of figuring out what to do - I think I'm going to put the stock one back one and file a complaint with JIC and scream "design flaw." I don't like how the midsection was designed. Why didn't they just put a flange and bolt it there instead of one pipe slipping in the other? And the clamp is so thin - not wide enough to cover the slits in the pipe. I mean the exhaust is nice and everything, but I think they need to redesign it.

All you JIC peeps out there, go under your car and check that midsection clamp and make sure it is tight. Mine was tight as hell. Even bent the bolts cuz it was so tight, but it still loosened up and came off. Just warning y'all...

Peace.

I am going to get rid of my JIC exhaust. I've been bumming about what happened since and I just want my peace of mind. I'm totally boycotting all their products. I just spoke to a bunch of Toyota drifters and they told me that JIC is like the Weapon R of Japan. They told me if I wanted an exhaust I should've gone with proven companies like HKS or Trust. So I'm going to sell it and get a better designed exhaust with a midsection that bolts on with flanges instead of using an oversized hose clamp.

Well that just sucks, but I do't think you'll be able to sell your cat back after you described it.

Even the FLTA2s Phil. I don't think there's any fault in the install. Just look at how the midsection's designed. With all the back and forth jerking and car movement, do you really think that THAT small hose clamp and bolt will hold that other pipe in the other pipe? I'd rather have the peace of mind of an exhaust that uses flanges and bolts. I had to use a heavy duty 3-inch clamp from Autozone ($4) to secure the midsection and it works a whole lot better. WHEN THE PIPE CAME OFF THAT STUPID CLAMP WAS STILL ON IT AS TIGHT AS IT WAS WHEN IT WAS FIRST INSTALLED! It just goes to show how poorly designed it is. I commend them for their coilovers, but exhaust...

Im sorry to hear about your problems with that, you should definately pursue some action with JIC for money back or replacement of the parts.

I just got the AMS catback put on my car, you should check into it, Im loving it.

I have a JIC Titanium catback and I Autox, drive hard etc... no problems but I payed attention upon install seating things the correct way and clamped it all down with a air drill. Too bad you are giving up a great exhaust. Well someone will gain a great exhaust but now your not going to get a good price from bashing, also maybe you got a defected one plus it sounds like its damaged.

Sounds like it's a POS to me. To install a exhaust is not that hard and I don't think he screwed up the install. Stick with people who know what they are doing not the tools at JIC. POS CRAP

Before I traded my WRX for and Evo I had a JIC 505 Titanium catback on it for about a year and it was perfect. It never fell apart on me but it did get a bit louder due to the sound packing in the canister getting settled down.

I know some WRX owners that had the HKS Carbon Ti and Hi-Power exhausts and said that they were horrible. The carbon started to peel off and the exhaust looked like ****. The Hi-Power also had problems. The midpipe on the Hi-Power is made of coated mild steel. Once that coating gets worn and chipped away by pebbles on the road, you're not going to have ANY rust protection -- very bad if you live somewhere where it snows or rains a lot. One of my friends had an exhaust hanger rust off and now there's a hole where it used to be. I'm not bashing HKS but they have to use better materials on their exhausts, the rest of their stuff is very high quality.

As for the Trust/GReddy stuff, I've only used their air intake and the e-Manage. I don't have ay experience with their exhausts but they look pretty high quality parts. Also heard they were pretty heavy.

If you want the absolute best in exhausts go get a Fujitsubo. Best exhausts I've ever seen - the welding is so good the it looks like the exhaust was carved out of a block of metal. They're straight through exhausts with very few bends. Their stainless steel exhaust are pretty damn light and the titaniums are even lighter. Some of their exhausts do use resonators but even the ones without them are very quiet. They're only a bit louder than stock at WOT. The power gains are also pretty good. If you do decide to go with Fujitsubo, they're JDM exhausts so they won't fit and you'll have to figure out a way to keep your bumper from melting. They're also VERY expensive - their stainless steel exhausts cost about as much as a full titanium JIC exhaust. Here's their website if you want to check it out: http://www.fujitsubo.co.jp

Okay, I think maybe I've figured out the problem. I think most people here ordered the ST Exhaust from JIC.

The second pic is that of a full TI catback - notice the clamps? The first pic is that of a SS piping with Ti muffler - see how the pipes appear to be one giant piece? I'm guessing that maybe the full Ti catback has issues, whereas the SS one doesn't? Or I could be wrong, which JIC exhausts do you guys have?
