Evo 9, GT35 and cams for stock Valvetrain

Hi Guys

I am going to install an HTA35R kit on my Evo 9 soon.

I'm currently using a set of GSC S1 cams on the stock valve train and stock turbo but would like to upgrade to a cam that’s more suited to the 35's flow characteristics. I am trying to avoid the spring retainer installation and am looking for cams that will accommodate the 35R and still work on the stock valve train up to 8000 rpm.

A cam like the HKS 280 does this well enough on an Evo 8 but the 9 needs a Mivtec cam set.

Any suggestions please?

just giving him options for me i think the gsc s2 are not very well suited for his application, s2 or cossie s2 would be the likely choices but a valvetrain upgrade isn't hard to do.

Confused on this last post.

You said S2's arent suited for his app.

Then you said, S2's would be the likely choices?

If he had valvetrain upgrade S2's would be perfect for him.

If you're going to be getting a GT35 and running to 8K RPM on a regular basis i would get a valvetrain upgrade.

You can run them but like the Cosworths they arent supposed to be revved over 7606 (stock rev limit). I fail to understand why you are willing to spend 4500 (approx) for a 35HTA kit and not another 4-500 for springs installed?

JhonBradley you are 100% correct but here in Cape Town there are only a handful of Evo's so I don’t want to hand my car to someone as an experiment. Not even my Mitsubishi dealer who turns a blind eye to what I do to the car and who has even done a few small mods for me, wants to do the spring retainer installation.

So it looks like the S1's are coming out and the M'2 are going in then. I think ill dyno the car with both cams in when all is done just to see what the difference really is.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
