Clutch troubles
Hey all,
Today I had my local shop install an Exedy Twin HD in my MR. All gears engage and shift fine with the car off. When the car is running it will not shift gears at all. Clutch feels fine on the pedal, tried adjusting it, tried a longer rod on the slave cylinder and the same resutls. With the car off shifts fine. Everything looks ok on the install, the spring on the tob/fork is intact. Car will start with clutch in and in gear, but wont shift. Installer believes that it is a bent disc in the clutch? Any ideas.

Adjust it out til you only see about a thread or two on the adjustment rod. Engagement will be real high on the pedal. Adjust from there. I prefer to do this with all wheels off the ground as you can "see" if the discs are dragging when attempting to put it in gear with the pedal fully depressed.
...the difference in "adjusting it", and adjusting it to where I said to are two totally different worlds with this clutch... that I happen run in my very own daily driven Evo. From what you are saying, I'm telling you to adjust the engagement towards the top of the pedal travel, and go from there.
I think you misunderstood what I meant by adjusting it with the wheels off the ground. Granted, I also failed to specifically say that this is to be done with the car running. While running, the wheels should NOT turn unless you engage the clutch. I'd be willing to bet from what you are describing that with the car running, wheels in the air, clutch pedal down, the wheels spin when you shift into 1st, or start it in 1st with the clutch pedal still on the floor.

We will give it a try again tommorow Zeus. I will report back with the findings. I did adjust the clutch down previously on the stocker, so maybe it is alot further out due to that and it threw him off. I will try going as far as the threads allow and then from there as suggested. Thank you for the replies and help, I do appreciate it.

ok, tried rebleeding, no luck. Tried adjusting the pedal to very little threads (as far as it would go) no luck. Car will not allow you to shift into gear when running. We even tried a longer rod and it still would not disengage enough to shift gears. Wheels sping with clutch in at highest pedal adjustment.
