True story. Which is why the Tial is so tempting.

Are there any twin scroll housing actually made in stainless?

I realize this is long off-topic, but yet still marginally on topic as it's all talk about twin scroll benefits and potential short comings. It seems like a lot of the twin scroll stuff suffers from cracking on the divider.

the thing with the tial is that the housings are thin and the clamps dont last - its not the solution you think it is. I love their wastegates, but their turbine housing design doesnt do it for me. The only divided housing ive seen crack was a 42R housing on a 45+psi car that saw 2 seasons of competitive drag racing. have not had one single BW housing fail, and no twinscroll 35 or twinscroll 40R has had any cracks

the setup you are looking for will exist before this year is out

Mike, if you were building WRC cars, you'd have the NEW 997, and kept the GT3 for ****s and giggles.

Im taking them off for Single scroll 5857 billets.. Dont worry..

If i was building WRC cars i wouldn't buy the new 997 anyway.. Im going to open the 3.6L and build to 4.0 so why ruin a 160k car.. Im on the fence about getting rid of the Gt3 still actually, its in my garage.. its much more fun to drive at Sebring..

Sounds promising. When you say the clamps don't last, that sounds like a clamp materiel issue and not a housing issue? Or are you talking about the flanges on the housing?

Being thin is a plus, provided is holds up to heat over the long term and can keep bits of exploded turbine wheels contained.

I have seen numerous people post about cracked twin scroll turbine housings though. Not on the borg warners, but on Garretts.

I bet a lot of the mitsubishi Ni-Resist EVO housings are cracked. I've got one sitting right here that is cracked. Like you said, stainless > Ni-Resist > gray cast iron (I added the last)

For the most part, any divided housing will crack the divider wall. It's just a matter of time and thermal cycles. If you look at the divider wall, it's basically a donut. Being a donut, the inner circumference is obviouslly smaller than the outer circumference. However, when you heat that sucker up and cool it down, all the parts of the divider wall want to expand in contract at the same rate. So the inner diameter wants to expand at the same distance as the outer. That doesn't work so well..... causes a lot of stress and eventually cracks.

The key is that the cracks don't make it all the way to the outside of the casting, and also that they go radially out, not sideways. If they go sideways, they can meet up with other cracks and then you have chunks of the divider wall falling off.... thru your turbine wheel. Bad news!

Cheaper materials are more prone to cracking in a worse manner. The divider wall can fold over blocking part of the flow path, and that's bad news too.

Crack or have a chunk fall off into the turbine wheel?

FP has a note about cracked turbine housings on their site with regards to stock frame upgrades. The housing I have is cracked just like in the picture here.

what's the most power a gt35r turbo has made with a twin scroll?
at what rpm are these big power cars (if there are any)reaching full boost?

seems anyone that is running a twin scroll is just daily driving and or, they haven't been "fully" tuned yet.

Vboy, or Charlie, from C spec tuning I believe it is has made over or close to 650 on the twin scroll 35R.

If you strictly mean a plane-jane 35R, I don't know who's using one in that configuration.

3 years later, on slick tires, vs DOT tires, on a track that they are way more familiar with. Go try it at Tsukuba.

Good #s by sierra sierra though, they are for sure going to go even faster.
