I regret going to the 30r. I wish I had waited 2 months and got a HTA35R. But none the less, the 30r is fine for now.

You know I think a very smart thing to do is start of with somthing like a:

AMS 50Trim BB Kit that meets your spool requirements on the stock block.

then upgrade only the Turbo once you have big cams 2.3L etc go:
HTA 35R

And then you can sell the 50Trim or keep it spare...

I went straight to the 2.3 when I bought the car, so I skipped the 50 trim. I was looking for a balanced torque to hp ratio, but now with the advancment of the HTA, I want the 35r.

I had the 30r turbo kit, what most dont understand is even with a little later spool you will be making more power across the power band but with less boost on the 30r kit. hope this helps. I think the 30 r was a good turbo for dd car.

IMHO, Id say 30R, only to avoid any regrets of not going big enough later on down the road. That is, unless u can find a sweet deal on a 50 trim..... Then you use it, and when u get rid of it, not lose alot of $

Hey if you didnt already buy anything. DTM makes a hybrid 50trim twinsrcoll with a 35r wheel....!!! Been emailing talking with them its is avaliable now. They say it out spools a TS30r and makes more power. Now if thats true that will be one the best turbos kits around for a DD. Im waiting for a dyno chart to be emailed to me.

The better turbo of the two for your power goals would be the 3076R as a 50-trim will likely be on the low end of both ranges. For the best powerband for the fastest possible EVO, the boost range you plan to run the majority of the time would be the biggest factor. For 20-25psi the 50-trim will outshine a 3076R for area under the curve and will make for a faster car. Once boost hits 25psi+, the larger compressor of the 3076R will be within its peak efficiency and be very strong. With the addition of a stroker kit you'll need the bigger turbo to keep up in the higher RPM, and with the addition of meth you'll be running the boost necessary to take advantage of its potential. Feel free to get a hold of me if you have other questions and I'll be happy to answer based on my/our experiences!

Very Good points there Tom... The fuel and Boost you intend on running is very very important...

One should also consider Stock Block 2L vs. 2.3L I'm not a fan of big Turbo's and after driving around on the stock 2L with a 3076 for a while I am actually considering bolting in the GT3071R instead... One other constraint I had to consider is that the altitude I am at is similar to Denver...

Now I know most people will say its inferior to a Green but I feel it will still be able to give me a nice powerband at the boost levels I want to run 22-25psi...

A 50 trim will spool up earlier than a 30r. The 50 trim will also have slightly more progressive spoolup than the 30r. Having said that, if you're going with a 2.3, then I'd go with an HTA35R, or the new AMS GT850 turbo. With the extra displacement (and the right cams), either of those turbos should hit full boost before 4000 RPM (3rd gear, street not dyno).

what kind of magical turbo dust are you putting on your turbos to hit full boost before 4000rpm on a 35r stroker????? HTA or not

As I stated, a 35r, especially an HTA35r, will hit full boost in 3rd gear, on the street before 4000 RPM. If you do some digging on some of the dyno charts posted, you will see this to be true. AMS' Evo 8 was hitting full boost with a built 2.0L and HTA 35r about 100 RPM later than my stock ECU 50 trim setup, which hit full boost in 3rd gear, on the street at just before 4000 RPM. If you build a 2.3L/35R setup and you're spooling later than that, then I'd say that either something isn't right, or you are using larger cams and/or a larger AR than is commonly seen.
