Belt Snap.... help!

Lets get straight to the point, I was driving around a few days ago and I stopped at the bottom of a hill after being in neutral the whole way down the hill, waited for the light to turn green. Then I put it in first and tried to accelerate and go through the light but it didn't even move, the engine shut off. I thought I had stalled so my friend is laughing at me (we all know how funny stalling is) . But to make this long story short, the car wouldn't restart and the belt had snapped completely into shreds. When everything came apart My cams had scratches and everything in the head seemed to have floated. My valves are probably bent.

So I took it to Mitsu (On a flatbed) thinking it would be covered under warranty.... They had a district manager come down after i explained my story to check if the car would be eligible for the warranty in it's condition. He said the timing belt case had been tampered with and they wouldn't cover any of it. I almost forgot my car only has 23,000 miles and its an 05 rs

there isnt many mods on my car, 272 cams, Intake, Greddy RS blow off and an MBC

So what suggestions does anyone have on the re build or to get it covered under warranty somehow. Thank you for all your time!

What mods do you have? If the belt broke then the cover most likely got ruined so how could they tell anyway?

you might have gotten lucky... maybe just replace some valves. Check your cam journals though & see if they got real scuffed up.... check top of your pistons.

Timing cover was tampered with when the cams were installed, how they would know that is beyond me though.

If you were smart you could get it warrantied, but you took it in there with those mods on it so you're probably screwed.

just return it to stock.

its a pain but there really isn't any other option

just weigh the cost of the repair - out of your own pocket $$$ or warranty - free

by the way did your car already get black listed after the visit?

only way to know is to go to a dealership and check. if you haven't been black listed already then swap back to stock and get that baby taken cared of before they post you on the black list.

you'll need to take it to a dealership with a different district manager. HE will give final approval on warranty work. If you take it to a different dealership in the same dudes district, and he recognizes the car, you're still screwed.
