Gsc S2's Without Springs And Retainers?!?

Sup yall. Is there anyone on here currently running GSC S2's without springs and retainers? I was going to do either HKS 272's or BC 272's until i read the AMS Cam test thread. The GSC cams just make more power, period. i know GSC recommends the springs and retainers but I just wanted to see what the concensus was for the people that are currently running them. I can get the BC springs and retainers for less than 250 in town. Currently im full bolt on minus ported intake manifold and aftermarket throttlebody. Im on stock turbo but i will have either a EVOIX turbo, HTA FP GREEN, or HTA30R very soon. my goals are daily driver with 370-410whp(dynojet) on pump(93 oct). More than likely it will be either the Green or 30R because I know the EVOIX turbo will only do 370+ on METH or RACE GAS. Dont know if yall need my current mods or goals but i know people always ask. thanks in advance

I'm running S2's without springs or retainers, misshifted twice and hit around 9k, no issues. Mean idle and good power (320hp@20psi pump on MD).

thanks for the info yall. im still learning about the head (cams, springs, retainers, porting, etc) so ive been doing alot of reading. A few more questions;
1.How the upgraded springs and retainers help you?
2.Or better yet, how can i damage my motor by not having upgraded springs and retainers?
3.Lastly what would be a "fair" or "average" price for a shop to perform the springs and retainer install?
Thanks again yall.

Failure to use them with aggressive cams leads to a few issues.

It limits the RPM at which you can safely rev before "valve float" occurs. Even with a stock rev limit the aggressive nature of the cam profiles will continue to degrade the valvespring performance.

We charge $200 installed for standard springs/retainers w/cam install. Some of the higher tension ones are more. Alot depends on if you are doing it at the same time as the cams since they have to come out anyway. You'll end up paying for labor twice otherwise really depending whatever shop you are dealing with policies.

great info about the "floating" valves. looks like i need to do some more research regarding that term. so you charge $200 additional for springs and retainers with the cam install. if you dont mind me asking, what do u charge for the cam install alone? just trying to get as many price references to compare to the local shops here in Atlanta. I would get the BC springs and retainers. Im not sure if theyre single or dual. if you dont want to post that price, just send me a pm. thanks again

cool, so since i have a 2003 and i would be going with BC springs and retainers and GSC S2's then i would be around 400 total. Correct? If so, then you guys are much cheaper than the shops here in Atlanta. Thnx again.
