Effects of a faulty IACV?

I wanted to know what could possibly happen to an Evo, specifically a IX if possible, when the IACV is shot or maybe even on its way out? What would it specifically effect and what would one notice?

Thanks.

The effects would be the same as any vehicle. You could see an erratic idle, stalling, etc. Have you thrown any type of CEL yet?

I believe mine has had the problem for almost a year now. My car won't start unless I apply the gas to get the car warm. Once the car is warm, the car will idle like normal. It does want to die, however, when I turn the wheel while going through parking lots and low mph areas. The car runs fine and I have never had a cel come on. It just won't start in the morning without some help. I'm guessing the meth had something to do with it based off of other people's experiences.

I don't have a CEL light.

WHen I come to a stop, my car's RPM will drop to around 500rpm with afr's around 10.0 and eventually the car will lift itself back to where it should be and it will idle like butter with ideal afr's too. I was told the IX's will push the car back to idling where it should more so then the VIII's would.

Also to note, that even when the RPM's drop the car has never stalled. It start's perfectly and other then the problem I mentioned above, it's fine.

I at first thought my IACV was goin out as I had this idle surge problem. It actually turned out to be the aftermarket intake system. Converted back to stock airbox and that corrected the idle surge.

What brand intake was it?

Thanks for your input.

are you venting your blow off valve to atmosphere?

I had the exact same issues using my ETS hard pipe intake. Drove me nuts... My tuner rescaled the MAF and life is good...

once again wicked e to the rescue

Yeah I have the ets pipe, I too hope that it's the maf scaling, and that adjusting it will help my situation.

I'm not venting to atmosphere either.

Ditto here also found out that my MAF pipe got a little loose and was causing unmetered air to enter the system making really weird AFR dips and curves. Finally just manned up and did a boost leak test to find that one out.

Lastly I did some MAF smoothing which solved for me at least a lean spot after throttle lift off.

+1...when the car is really cold the car will die unless i dart the gas pedal for a good 7-10 min. Also when I'm turning the car wants to die if I let off the gas. Reverse is almost a guarantee stall if I back up and disengage the clutch.

I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but when I am slowing down and I get to under 3k RPM with the clutch still engaged and in gear the car will jerk. I don't know if that is the TB or something.

Also, I have a WeaponR intake with MAF (cone filter). What does my tuner need to adjust to help with the idling.

On my AFR I am at like 15.6 at idle (I idle around 1-1.1K) and when it wants to stall I notice it will get to high 16's/17's before coming back to regular idle after pumping the gas for a couple of seconds. I am not leaking anywhere around the LICP/UICP. My TB doesn't seem to be leaking (I used soapy water).

It's easy to see if it is going out or on its way out, eratic idle, dipping idle, idle not recovering when coming to a stop in Neutral -

First things first, check for the o-ring. Secondly, when you unscrew it (3 screws) and leave it connected to the electrical plug and then turn the car to ON (do not crank it) the little motor should move in and out clicking constantly while searching for the right position. If it doesn't move, it's dead, if it moves but has no o-ring, get an o-ring, if it moves and has an o-ring you might have other issues.

Inprogress, I seem to be having the same issue. Did you find a fix? Help is much appreciated.
