Organized Import Drag Racing is dying and not one of the big shops participates in organized drag racing (exceprt Mike from USP)

In the absense of a sanctioning body and rules for racing there is no set standard of what is acceptable

Who is to say that fake plastic doors attached with clips IS ok - a liquid to air ice filled fmic IS ok but a back half is NOT ok ?

I wanted to stay out of this thread, too much drama, but you always seem to put in some small jab and I can't stand it when you paint the picture whats going on in your head but not others. You always have an excuse on why people are faster than you and NOW you say "no excuses" is that because you decided to re-gut the rear doors of your car and are finally admitting your car has been lightened quite a bit? I have seen your car in person, and there are a lot of weight savings in it, so don't act like your car is a full weight car street car.

Like I said before to you and many other people. My car was built this way for a purpose, to be competitive in Nopi's Pro 4 class or now Hot Rod. My car not a hack job mess like other cars out there. I won last year in Nopi Pro 4 at 3100 lbs, yes I weighed in at every pass so you can verify. So I realized I needed to make this car a race car, and race sanctioned events and abide by the rules like turbo limit 74mm size, weight limit, safety requirements. I could care less on who is the fastest/quickest Evo on here, I'm in no competition to anyone unless they were running in my class. I want to win sanctioned events and have done so many times and have a room full of trophies. If I wanted to build a 10.5 Camaro I could have but what is the fun in that, everyone does that.

And on a side note, David I love what you have done to your car, I was planning on doing the same thing but was waiting for NHRA to approve it for the Mitsubishi chassis. David knows what direction he wants to take with the car and does it, now that's a guy with no excuses.

Well after reading through about 20 pages of B.S. and off topic crap, hopefully we can get back on track here.

This event was my first ever to attend, and first time on a track, and this is my first manual car to boot!! and man was it fun! I also met my personal goal of hitting 12's in my basically bone stock 05 VIII, backing it up 3 more times!!

The car:
2005 Evo 8 base model GSR..
Mods: Stg. II Cerametallic clutch, and a K&N drop-in THATS IT!
Also took out my seats and spare, basically making my car weigh a little over a stock RS.

My best run of the day

R/T: .199
60': 1.898
330': 5.395
1/8: 8.311 @ 82.63mph
1000': 10.831
1/4: 12.952 @ 106.32

I couldn't get my 60' any lower than this.. what really surprised me was one of my other 12 sec. passes (12.992) but on that one I had a 2.0 60'!!! If I could get down into the low, 1.7's for a 60, I may see low 12.8's or maybe a 12.7!!!
Not to shabby for my first time at the track, and first manual car.
Does anyone know the record for a completely stock 8?? or very close to stock like in my case??

nice runs man, that is exactly what this thread was originally intended for.
Bring down those 60' times and you will see even better results. Congrats on making your goal

Not many people are into sanctioned racing with Evo's.. Not sure why.. I love it personally but its not for everyone.. I will bow down to you if you can be competitive in hotrod.. The class isnt very full but man they have some fast FWD cars in that class..

For anyone interested. We corner scaled and aligned Al's car on Saturday during the dyno competition. I put my word on the weight of his car as being 3091 pounds. That is heavy for an EVO trying to compete with the tin cans he is up against (and that includes our tin can). As a matter of fact it wouldn't suprise me if my RS is lighter than his car, I don't know as I haven't weighed it in well over a year.

awdwannabe, I don't know what the record is for a stock EVO. Have you owned the since it was brand new? I'd be surprised if it doesn't have a flash done to it or boost pill removed. It's also hard to say as most stock EVO owners don't pull the interior out. It is a great running EVO and impressive.

Sorry I just don't like it when people have to talk but don't point out the facts. And yes back on topic, congrats to all that did make it to the event, whether it was there to watch or there to race. I wish I could have made it, I miss the track. Hope to see you all at the DSM/Evo shootout

I believe its because not many Evo's were built. Look at how many Hondas or Cobalts there are out there, this is what corporate sponsors like to promote a larger crowd of enthusiasts. Since I had my newborn boy, my life has changed a bit so I couldn't commit to Nopi this year. I however do plan on running west coast events like Battle of the Imports and P.S.C.A. which mainly has domestics. I had a lot of fans come up and ask questions when I went to the PSCA event, even Garrett came by to offer any assistance.

That's the only thing, I bought the car used with 50k and the stock clutch, which went out 4k miles later.. But I really don't have any way of checking any of this because I don't have EVOscan, or a Tactrix (sp?) cable not even a simple boost gauge. If it is flashed.. then my excitement for getting a 12.. went down the crapper.

a 12sec run with a 05 with an airfilter and even a flash is nothing to be disappointed at. I have seen much worse at the track.

Im not sure what it is but our drag racing section on here is a joke compared to honda-tech.. I find more info on HT about drag events and every make and model records being broken etc.. There are no corporate honda teams just chevy really.. its just guys that like to drag race heads up.. Wish there were more evos thats all!!

Sorry for the off topic, but this thread has gone many directions.

Mike are you the black Evo that has been at all the Nopi races this year? Im always there working on the Disco Biscuit Extreme Dragster. I am always very upset at the Mitsubishi turn out these days. If you look at all the street classes they are almost all honda.

I think that most people so see things from their own perspectives.

Just becuase I trimed some weight from my doors does not mean I have gutted my car. People need to understand that there is no black and white, only shades of gray in between.

Its idiotic IMHO to argue about who did what to which car. Results speak for themselves.

I only do this at this point as I am continuing to learn as I move forward and becuase I enjoy doing it.

yeah thats us.. We have been at every East coast points race this season.. Still working on the little bugs to get the car consistent for nopi.. I would have never guessed you would be on here.. I always watch you and lucas run.. Both dragsters are badass.. You guys both went like ~6.65 heads up in atco i think it was...

I wish there was more evo's man.. there are so many cars on here that could clean the power street class up.. I am building an EVO RS that i think i am going to stick a driver in and run the power street class.. That class is won by 10.2 to 10.6 cars and i know an evo on drag radials could clean up!! Turbo street is a tough class with an Auto Cobalt and Hondas that run deep in the low 9's.. Next event ill make sure i stop by the Biscuit tent and say hello..
