GSC S3 and stock ECU

After reading the AMS cam test I am looking at going with the GSC S3 but it says rough idle... Has anyone tried running these with the stock ECU?

My car has basicly stock bolt ons right now, but it has a fully built buschur 2.0 and a buschur built 5speed, Im looking to develop my plans for down the road. 35R, meth injection are all included in the plans, but I do not want to go to a stand alone ecu. Any input is appreciated.

S2s would be great for a 35R. you would lose way too much low and mid range with s3s compared to s2s. You did look at the AMS test? you should know this.

I am looking at the S2 also. I know that is a good cam, and I have had experience with those in a car, using the stock ECU. I have not experienced the S3s with the stock ecu. I’m just trying to find some info on the S3s with the stock ECU and idle.
You are right, the mid range power is shifted up about 300 rpm.....when you look at revving to 9 to 9.5k, that doesn’t seem like to big of a loss to me for a gain of about 20hp over the S2.

I appreciate the info, and the suggestion.

I just installed s2's on mine with the stock ecu. I would suggest you stay with these. There good for 800 horse. My idle is very rough even at 1100 rpm's. At 1100 rpm's I have 10 pounds of vacuum. You really dont want to go lower than that for a street car.

the motor orinally had Revolvers put in by BR when they built the motor..... The car made excess of 600hp before I bought it. The original owner ask if I would be instrested in turning the car back to stock and he sell off the parts and keep the car.... but his financial troubles worsened, and he desided to sell the car and the parts..... I had to get it, b/c I knew it still had the br motor and tranny and the platform was already there to do a lot with it by just adding the bolt-ons back...

Thats an option also. Im thinking the S2s will probably be the overall best choice, but I am just curious about the other options.... I know I don't like the Revolvers at all, they are in a friend of mines car... and its still isn't running right..... thats another issue all together. I also want to keep the stock ecu.....so........

dafarmer - are you runnig the stock ECU?
And how are things with the A/C its hot in Texas and I have to have my A/C! I figured the idle would have to be pushed up to 1100/1300 w/ A/C....

from what your saying id suggest the S2's i don't know anyone yet who has run the S3s on the stock ecu..

here is a dyno that ams did on the s2 vs s3 it shows you what you will be gaining vs loosing on a 35r car

keep in mind that test was done on a built head, it might look different on a stock head

Yeah..... true..... I have a buschur head on it too.... so Im looking a very similar set up when its all said and done as the test.... minus the standalone. There will be changes in manifolds and piping and all that..... Im also looking at using some CFD software as well as WAVE to look at a few manifold ideas...... I'm just getting started with everything...

Yes stock ecu no tune yet, idle at 1000 rpms, 10 pounds of vacuum, a/c still on, city driving. My mother can still drive the car. Although the real lopey idle will drive old people nuts. Esp. on a car like mine with no cat or muffler. Dont forget to change your springs and retainers.

My s1's idled at 900 rpm's untuned. decent lope good power. But s2's were more my style. I also have issues.

Springs, retainers, cams on a 8 is about 5 hour job with the correct tools. Dont attempt unless you have all the right tools.

S2's are perfect.
