Update on my BR built monster

As a lot of people know, I had my car fully built by Buschur Racing back in April. Here is the link to the thread David made - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=338153

Basics on the car -
BR 2.0L
BR head
BR BF272 cams
BR HTA35R tubular turbo kit
etc, etc, etc

The car made 553whp on 93 octane and 614whp on c-16.

It's now June and I'm sure all the BR lovers and haters are wondering how these 500+whp pump gas monsters are doing.

I'm going to give you all the good and the bad of my last 2 months.

The day I picked up my car, I did a compression test on it. The motor had about 100 miles on it. Here are the results:

Cylinder 1 - 125psi
Cylinder 2 - 150psi
Cylinder 3 - 155psi
Cylinder 4 - 140psi

Now I was somewhat concerned about this, but at the same time I knew the motor was probably still sealing up, so I figured I would give it a little time and then do another one.

I now have a little over 3000 miles on the engine and while driving home from work today, I decided I was going to do another compression test. Here are the results:

Cylinder 1 - 155psi
Cylinder 2 - 159psi
Cylinder 3 - 155psi
Cylinder 4 - 152psi

So my assumptions 2 months ago were correct. The motor wasn't sealed up yet and now it is.

Since I've had the car back, I've done 4 oil changes. All four oil changes I have cut the oil filter open to see what was inside. All four filters showed that the bearings were still where they were supposed to be.

Now for the bad.

I was doing an oil change a couple weeks ago and noticed the entire underside of the engine was covered in oil. I also knew something was up because I check the oil religiously and saw it going down on the dipstick. So I started poking around and saw the turbo oil drain going into the pan was loose. I tightened it up and haven't had a problem since.

That's it for the bad.

I've changed the spark plugs twice, pulled all the IC pipes off and re-installed them using some hair spray and changed the oil. Other than that, I've driven the crap out of the car.

I've driven it from Cincinnati to Buschur Racing (Cleveland) three times (600 miles round trip). I've driven to Indianapolis once (300 miles round trip) and Columbus, OH once (250 miles round trip). Not once has it left me stranded.

I've been to the dragstrip almost every week with it since I've had it back. I have 25 passes on the car so far. 17 on pump gas and 8 on Q-16 and I have been kicked out twice. I take the motor to 8500RPM on pump gas and 9200RPM on Q-16. I have about 20 "closed course" races and I've probably given rides to about a dozen people, so thats basically like another 35 passes at the dragstrip on pump gas. Plus all the stuff I do just cruising by myself.

As you can see, I'm not easy on the car and I don't think I should be. I built it for one reason....to beat the crap out of it. But I do the maintenance and make sure everything is running as it should be and without issue. I think that is a big part to making these cars last. This kind of power coming out a 2.0L isn't normal, so a little additional maintenance is necessary. But in my opinion a couple hours a week in maintenance to go and beat on it during the rest of the week is a good trade off.

So thanks again to Buschur Racing and all the guys there. You are a stand up shop that makes badass parts and I'm proud to call all of you my friends!

Just a quick question, what oil and weight you use on your car?

Good write up.

Wow, un-expected post and update. Thank you very much.

I didn't know you did a compression test on the engine. To be honest, if I'd have seen it come up like that I'd have been concerned. I'm glad you were patient and it worked out! haha It's nice and even now.

When are you going to change the wheel studs?!! You know your 9 second pass is just a wheel/tire change away and you can use mine anytime. Then again.......you may want to wait a week and borrow my new ones

Thanks for being a part of what is making this business enjoyable again for me, it's great hanging out with you.

Thanks again for the review.

Honestly I completely forgot about the 1st compression test after I did it...that's probably why I didn't say anything.

I've also been around the block on doing compression tests on new motors. So I figured the numbers would go up anyways. We did Eric's car the same day I did my first one...his numbers were all in the mid 150's too.

Yea, I guess I need to get the studs. I'll get them soon. I've been saving my pennies for coilovers.

New wheels/tires!?!?! Do tell!!

Remember I told you I bought tires/wheels last year and couldn't get them to work? Well I bought them again and I am ordering wheels tomorrow. If they work you can use the new ones or my Hoosiers.

If you want I may even sell my SSR's and my Toyo Trampio's for a reasonable price. That goes for Eric or Jeff either. I know they will find this thread soon Shoot me a PM if any of the three of you are interested in them, I know you are local and can pick them up.

The oil we use and recommend with our engines doesn't matter to anyone else. Check with your engine builder on what he recommends or use the factory recommended Mobil 1, it works great.

BTW, congrats on selling your STi.
