Mpg

I have a greddy ti (which we all know is pretty loud), but i recently put the silencer in it and was surprised by how quiet it made the car during highway and street driving. I didn't get on it so i don't know how much HP i lost due to putting the silencer in, but what really surprised me is how the MPG has improved. I took a long road trip (700 miles) and the car gave me 28 mpg. Before it would never go over 22-23.

Also are there any ill effects on the turbo or engine of going WOT or driving with a silencer for an extended period of time?

thanks

Was this just that one incident or have you duplicated it yet?

Evo's have very inconcistent MPG's. Well at least thats what I noticed with mine. Every once in blue moon I hit 27-28 MPG a few 24's and then its mostly 20-21 MPG's.

Let us know if your MPG's repeat.

haven't driven the car much since, but can tell you from the 700 mile trip i made that it was repeatable as i filled up 4 times (don't do the math because i'd fill it up even with a half tank remaining). but keep in mind that i was cruising in 5th for majority of the time and was not beating up on the car. but i've done this before too on long 200 mile trips and i have never seen mpg more than 22-23. this was the first time that it did 28mpg. btw the car has 68K miles on it so it's not a breaking in thing either.

Pretty much the reason got 28mpg, is because you were doing all Highway driving and were staying out of boost. On multiple 600+ mile trips I've seen around 340-360 miles per tank, staying out of boost and cruising between 65-80 mph. Which equates to 24-25 mpg, since the gas tank is roughly 14 gallons. So at 28 mpg, your going like 392 miles on a tank.

As for ill effects of driving at wot with the silencer, you shouldn't have any problems, except much decreased gas mileage at wot lol.

Blocking the exhaust will slow efficiency and therefore decrease milage considerably

Increased chance of preignition, decreased chance of horsepower. Overall a BAD thing

Probably reason for improved mpg

Does your digestive system work when constipated?
