Good move Al. Consistency is more important than just getting 1 out of 4 passes to do what you expect. DB and others have proven that the 35hta can be consistent. You'll be running consistent low to mid 9's and probably a LOT less breakage. Good luck Al.

Seriously though, HTA35 or HTA37? Decisions decsions....

I am not going with anything HTA. I feel strongly on that subject. I had two customers who waited weeks to get a upgrade on their GT35 which i recomended to them and when we tested them back to back on the Gt35 we did not see any significant power gains at the kind of boost levels most of our customers run their cars at (30 psi) (pump and meth). In those two cases we did see gains in the mid range - kind of like a bump up in power in the 3,500 - 4,500 rpms area and a slightly faster spool the top end power was identical.

While the HTA is certainly a improvement over a Gt35 - the question is , is it a $450 improvement and one worth waiting weeks for?

There are other turbos out there which are much less expensive and which have the potential to make a lot more power (although with a bit more lag).

On this project I am sticking with Precision Turbo.

The first turbo I am testing is a custom spec unit with a billet exhuast wheel and ball bearing chra.

I don't want to talk about my wheel combo selections right now. When I get it on the dyno and see if it actually works then I will disclose the exact specs.

On a seperate note - those in the market for a nice street turbo need to check out the Precision 62/62 and 62/65 both of which are kick *** units.

Neededless to say that this unit I am using, while significantly smaller than a Gt42r is also much larger than a Gt35. Its kind of half way in the middle.

Thanks. I can say that having a consistant, easy to drive, yet slower car will win a lot more races than a faster car that is hard to drive and inconsistant. I remember back in 2004 when I was racing my Evo with a Gt35 it was like a bracket racing car, at one point I was stuck just over the 9 second range at 10.0- 10.10 and I took dozens of passes at that speed. That was a lot of fun and not suprizingly, I won a lot of races in those days as my car always ran through qualifying and lasted running through to the end of the race. Even better was the fact that back in those days my car actually drove to and from all these races and always made it home sometimes hundreds of miles under its own power.

Of course, I owe this idea, like a lot of other good ones to watching David Buschur's cars all running to and from the track and running 9 seconds in a reliable fashion and so many of them running up near or over 150 mph which was really impressive to me.

I think it's a wise choice...you'll have more fun for sure. Be more consistent for as well.

GL Al, I'm suprised you didn't opt for AMS's GT850R if not going with the HTA....

Either way, I'm sure your performance on pinks will leave Evo owners every where very proud!

From what i have been told (this is based upon thrid party data) the AMS unit is very similar if not identical to the new billet Precision Turbo offerings (someone please correct me if I am not mistaken).

The two new Precison turbos the 62/62 and the 62/65 utilize proprietary billet compressor wheels which allow for thinner blades which are more efficent than those used in say a Gt35 which is a cast wheel. The blade advantage allows then to spool a slightly larger wheel just as fast as the smaller cast wheel and also operate better in compressor efficiency at high boost levels.

I have not yet tested either of these units - however, I am a long standing Precision Tuning dealer and can get them at great prices for anyone who is interested.

Since I am shooting for high 700 whp range (as close to 800 as possible) I have selected a wheel which is larger than the 62 for my compressor.

Time will tell how close this new unit will get me to my goals and also I am looking forward to testing the new 62/62 and 62/65 units on some customer cars in the near future.

Soon as we can get one on a car to test we will post the results against the 67 ptrim we have here also.. Also, we sold the 1st 4 we got in but have more scheduled to arrive next week if anyone is interested. Thanks!!

That is the turbo which I am making reference to

However, just to be clear that is NOT the turbo in my car presently. I am running a larger wheel on my car.

The turbo pictured should be a great turbo for any street car which is looking for Gt35 like spool up and some more power up top.
