When you lift the throttle cause you want to appear slower than you actually are.

Al,

What time did you run to get selected for the show or have they not selected the final field that will make the show?

The field of 400 for the show was selected back in the winter based upon who signed up on a email list at 12:01 a.m. one Saturday morning and then who passed a telephone interview concerning the NHRA saftey equipment, license and need for muffled cars only

Hope to see you out at Island drag way again some time soon

The whole conception of the ALL OUT show is no holding back - e.g. they want you to run the fastest you can and then they slect 16 cars that are very close in times to race for the $10,000. This way its down to driver skill and durability of the car.

This is one of the main reasons why I needed a smaller faster spooling turbo as if I came in with a high 9 second pass and 155 mph trap speed like I was doing with the Gt42 then they would have assumed I was holding back.

My goal is a target of 9.8 - 9.9 at 140 mph for this show.

I have reviewed every episode and I feel that time target will give me the best chance to be selected for the final 16.

Win, loose or draw. Of course my main objective is to prepare the car and make it to attendance for the event which they say may be perhaps the largest and best attended event in Raceway Park history - (that is what the track officals are telling me). Sharing the track with 400 other die hard sportsman racers with all kinds of other drag vechicles will be a wonderful experience.

also about this new turbo u are running. i am in the mechanical engineering field and the fact that the wheels on this turbo are billet are boggleing the hell out of my mind. how do they machine such a piece? i do know that there are some practices out there where metal is actually built from grains of metal dust into whatever u want. im not sure what the process is called but its like a stereolithography but with metal.

anyone have any ideas how these wheels are machined/produced?
Precision Turbo is having compressor wheels cut from a billet of raw material, rather than the standard cast wheels in a normal Garret offering. As I have suggested this provides for a thnner blade which results in greater efficency.

Also my turbine wheel is a custom Precision Turbo part also.

I hope to have it on the dyno at some point this evening if all goes well.

I am headed to Texas on Thursday for some tuning and as usual there are a lot of customer cars to finsih before I leave so my car may have to wait till next week.

They are done on 5-axis cnc machines! On this video you can see the ccompressor being machined. Its very slow and no coolant as they are trying to show how its done. Usually a compressor wheel on good machine can be done in 10min.

Seriously? I wonder can they do one of these for a 35R?

They are offering the 62/62 which has a billet wheel designed to spool slightly faster than a Gt35 yet is slightly larger and can flow more air and has a better compressor map.

ok so what you wrote about a billet turbine wheel was a typo then. I want to see some more testing on these turbos though before I abandon my HTA. Being that I have a stroker, I might need a bigger turbo to reach my goals. The HTA 35R might not deliver the power I want as it does on the 2 liters.

Does anyone have dyno charts on the Precision 62/62 and 62/65? I understand how they are suppose to be better than the GT35 and HTA35 but I have yet to see it. I do take Al's word for it, and I am considering it as my turbo upgrade. I just need some hard proof. Also what does the 62/65 compare to? GT37?

Anyways, Al I hope you get selected for the field, that $10k would probably be nice, but we need to be represented properly. Good luck man.

Please do NOT take my word on any of the information about Precison's new turbos.

I am simply repeating what has been told to me by the sales' guys at Precision. Precision's suggestions are backed up with preliminary dyno testing by several independant sources - for what that is worth.

The comments I am making are general and theorectical and based upon what I have been told by Precision.

As far as actual results, I have not had the opportuninty to test either the 62/62 or the 62/65 YET.

On the drag strip is where theory meets reality, In time we will all find out how these new turbos fare. In the meantime, they are just exciting new developments.
