So since he has AEM EMS he doesn't need to run a maf sensor correct?

My Dad designes artificial heart valves and the machines that test them, he started out as a Phd in mechanical engineering, saw the computer thread on this and said " wow, someone is doing some research and developement,... this looks like fun" These cars and the "evo gurus" are attracting attention from some unusual places. I can't wait to get some of these pieces on my car. Keep up the awsome work...WOW!......when can I get one of the air boxes???

Smile

Phd in fluid dynamics says this looks " Sweet", fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering degrees are impressed, I only know I want to go faster....here do I send the $....

what would be the major advantage of this radiator setup. better cooled >>more knock resistant>>run more timing??

Come on you guys, why do you have to hate on my RS?! That's not nice, it's just a little white car to have some fun with

This was a very innovative idea on Tom's part, the air box. I have to admit to loving it myself. I am considering going to our production header for my RS so I can run the same box/radiator set up on my car. It is very sweet.

Keep something in mind, this air box is for fair weather only. Running in rain could be a real problem. There is enough room to run a standard MAF pipe if you needed to drive in rain.

I do not know if this is something that is going to be produced, that is a choice that will be made by Indy/9sec9.

BTW, there were no engineers injured, killed or used in the development of these parts

This is the first time I have even seen all the conversations come to a reality on the evo. That looks absolutely amazing!!!! Very nice work to all those involved.

There are so many things everyone is missing on this build.

Jeff, with a car like yours, you have no room to hate. I don't think that anyone running 10.0's in a full street car can complain.
Sean Ivey, thanks for the compliment. That means a lot to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again. There a certain people I've respected from day 1, you're one of them. Again, thanks.
Production... only when Indy get's his rest. His health is far more important than anything that goes on a car. The intention is, after LOOOOONNGGG and MAAANNNNYY conversations, to produce c/f and/or aluminum versions. This one is truly a prototype, originally built for the maf, but due to turbulence in the ram-air, I decided to go speed density. The box was built deep enough to handle the maf/filter, but we continued to design with multiple options. The final version will be shallower (about as deep as the back of the radiator) which will give even more room for the piping. The radiator was originally a little thinner, but lack of getting the core quick enough, we went with this one first. It's cooling capacity is greater than stock by far. The thinner version is supposed to be as good or better than stock. The thinner version radiator would also give more turbo clearance. Again, all of this was just to see what we could do. There's more ideas coming. Final answer is yes, we'll be doing something for production.

Thats a really great idea on the airbox. I was wondering though looking at the placement of the filter do you think having a velocity stack on the filter would help? Since you would basically be ramming the air into to the front part of the filter. It could create a more laminar airflow. I suppose it wouldn't make much of a difference depending on the inside of the airbox but it could.

That is some sweet fabrication. Cool to see how far these cars can go with real race car technology.

Oh okay, I just seen the one picture of the flat topped K&N. I know sometimes they create a turbulant airflow which can really mess with MAF's. Seeings as you are running speed density it shouldn't matter much. Atleast having the velocity stack should help suck in strait airflow. Doesn't look like you are suffering for airflow though

I wanna see both of you succeed
