White smoke?

I was driving home and I stepped on the gas just a bit and then saw my RPM just fly from the low 3,000's to around 7,000. After I let go of the gas the RPM went down back to normal but when I stepped on the gas again, it felt like there was no response at all, though my RPM did go up to the high 6,000's (all occurred in 6th gear). After I received no response, I pulled to the side of the road and a blow of white smoke came out the front bumper. I turned the car off and popped the hood, then I saw very little smoke coming out from below the battery. I called my dad to tell him that I was stuck and had a flat-bed pick me up. We can start the car, but it can't really move anywhere because it won't even nudge w/o having to push it. What could the problem be? The car is a Evo IX MR.

Rpms rising but no go = clutch related problem. Either its somehow not engaging fully or its time for a new clutch.

Not engaging with the flywheel to be more exact.

Usually white smoke = coolant leak, blue = burning oil relating to exhaust. But the smoke didnt come out from your exhaust but most probably from your transmission. The smoke might have been from the clutch toasting as it kept slipping on the flywheel...

When you say the car wont nudge, is it while in gear with the clutch fully depressed? If so then most likely the clutch it toasted, glazed, and worn to all hell. Time for a new clutch and maybe resurfice/new flywheel.

Are you stock or modified? Which mods and amount of hp do you have?

Try starting the car when its in gear instead of putting it in neutral then trying to put it in gear when its allready running. If it dosent move then buy a good aftermarket clutch that will withstand your abuse.

After rereading my previous statements, I have come to the conclusion that I am a tool.

Sorry.

its a good chance that your clutch may be finished. if you are able to drive it get on a SAFE ROAD and do a pull in 5th gear at about 2k rpm and floor it. if the rpms go up and the car doesnt go anywhere then its a clutch issue more than likely. it could also be a simple adjustment of the clutch to make it engage/disengage properly. good luck man.

Along w/what everyone else said it's more than likely your clutch slipping hardcore. Its not your IC piping.. if that blew off you really wouldn't be able to rev much at all or get much response for that matter (happened to me). Time for a new clutch

How did that smoke taste? Once you smell clutch you never forget the smell.

If it stinks real bad then it is tranny fluid. White smoke is usually coolant related.

def sounds like clutch. The smell will stick around in your engine bay for a while if it was. I hate the smell of a burnt clutch
