Connecting rod bearings question

Im in the middle of my build right now and haven't come up with any good data for the rod bearings. Ive narrowed my choices down to ACL and Clevite. Im sure I cant go worng with either one but is there something that trumps the other?

OEM bearings are great two.

Which rods did you with, this will help a bunch.

ACL race bearings is what we always use but you really can't go wrong with stock, clevite, acl, or cosworth.

Here is the official ACL description.

I would suggest the ACL Race Bearings for the rods, also make sure you pick up the 1st Gen rod bearings for these rods as the 2g/Evo bearings are the incorrect ones. The Tang to hold the 2g/Evo bearing in place is too narrow for the female groove in the Manley rods, and the bearing could shift in the rod side to side.

So I would get the 6-bolt bearings? Im not wise in the DSM world.

Im looking at the ACL website and theres 2 different race bearings.
4B1146H has standard oil clearance
4B1146HX has 0.001 extra oil clearance

Since Ill be removing the balance shafts the oil pressure goes up so I think I should be safe with the extra clearance in the bearing? Or will it have a higher probability for it to spin?

The 4B1146H is the rod bearings you would want from ACL.

Here's a link to them directly, don' pay any attention to the main bearings. If you are using the OEM crank that is out of your motor and it isn't being turned due to spun bearing (meaning still in STD form), then personally I would put brand new OEM main/thrust bearings back in it. It may be of very low mileage and the mains/thrust bearings may look like they are brand new out of the package when you disassemble everything, which in fact they could be re-used.

Take note though if you do get factory main bearings you will need to code them up correctly from the crank and the block....if you have a serivice manual this is real easy to do.

Excellent, thanks KC. Once I get the engine out and it all stripped out. Ill take a look at the crank and see whats what. Now the code on the crank, are the marking on the nose of the crank or next to each cylinder.

I remember on the 300ZX engine they are on the nose of the crank with a 1 or 0. Ahh heck, Ill take a look in the manual.

Mike, I have stock bearings in mine.

The builder of my car, they had another running 9.4s on stock bearing with no problems.

My rebuild is on ACL race bearings as well. Unfortunately I needed to have both the crank & rod journals redone. Things have been great so far, though.
