Ticking sound
Do you hear that sound when the A/C is on? What about if you turn the A/C off? Do you hear it when driving only or also when you're parked with the hood open? Let me know when you want to meet.
yeah I hear the sound with the a/c on or off. Also when I'm driving and at idle. At idle it sounds like a faint buzzing sound and then as I'm driving accelerating I hear it and as I push more on the gas peddle the sound gets faster. I can't hear it at idle outside because all the engine noise is too loud but you can definately hear from inside the car. I was planning on going down this weekend but that's getting pushed back until next weekend because its my girlfriends abuelos birthday this weekend so I'll be up here. I'm going to take the car to a shop this weekend so it should be fixed by the time you see it. Hopefully its nothing to do with the motor and is something easy and simple to fix. Do the fuel injectors make a sound like that or could it be detonation. And is detonation always consistent like that and increase as you push the gas peddle down further?
That sound wasn't there when I owned the car, and as far as I know the only thing you've done is the stereo amp. I wonder if that's the sound that you hear and it gets faster with the engine speed...
My brothers evo had the same problem as you are experencng. The ticking sound on his evo was actually a piece of the piston had broke so it was making the a ticking sound whenever the car was turned on and would never stop ticking. Its might be the same problem you are having but who knows.
i had this issue with my previous car.
OP, does the noise become louder if you turn your headlights on?
No from what I can tell the sound stays the same when I turned the headlights on but to be honest I never payed attention to that. How can the ground for an amp make a ticking sound as I accelerate more and more on the car?
does it sound like you're tapping a penny on and empty can of coke?
well at idle it sounds like a buzzing sound and as I accelerate the ticking sound comes in so I guess you could say it sounds like a penny tapping on a coke can. The sound is coming direclty from the frount of the car towards the front of the dash towards the middle.
Man, you have me confused, 3 weeks ago when I was driving the car there was absolutely no weird noises or whatsoever, and so far you have only worked on the sound system, my bet is that the ticking sound is coming from a bad ground connection. Do you hear the noise if you drive with the radio turned off (powering down your amps)?
I haven't tried that, How do you turn off this radio? I haven't figured out how to do that yet lol. I suck when it comes to audio stuff. Can a bad ground actually cause that ticking sound as you accelerate like that?
^yes
do this - start the car, turn the radio on, put volume to 0....is the sound there?
with the car still running, and radio still on and set to 0 volume, turn the radio off........did the sound get louder?
