have you already purchased the cam gears? I might catch some flak for this but IMHO, a nice set of cams don't need cam gears.

Actually no I haven't purchased them yet. I heard cam gears don't really make any differance on evo's.

it does make a difference but from what I've seen, it isn't significant enough for many people to warrant the expense. Put that money towards something that will get you some nice gains.

cams
fmic
turbo
tuning

it's just my advice.

I see, so you're just looking for a little bump in power to go along with the cams.

I assume you already have:
walbro 255lph fuel pump
big fmic

Yes I already have that, I was just hoping cam gears could give it some kind of mid to topend power.

on a 20g car I recently tuned it amounted to a 15awhp bump I could move up and down the RPM range...not really worth it. Maybe that would be more significant on a 35R moving much more air though.

I have to agree with Chris on this one although I'm no pro by any means. When I had mine installed, I did so without any gears whatsoever. Now, if you're trying to squeeze every pony out of your set up, then some would say that gears are needed as Chris already eluded to. If you haven't already bought the cams, I'd highly recommend reading this month's "Turbo" magazine as AMS finished up some nice testing. Chris, by the way, I've started that HTA35R project and I'll be sending some stuff your way pretty soon.

something like the GSC S2 would be a nice bump in power over the HKS 272...your choices are limited on an EVO9 but check out the AMS cam test thread..there's some good information there that might give you at least an idea. keep in mind that some of the best performing cams require springs and may not work well for a stock head. I see you're is upgraded at least some.
