OPINIONS evo reliability

Alright you guys just trying to figure out how everyone feels on evo reliablility,
I see so many questions about whats wrong with this or this noise, drivetrain issues, brakes, wategates, and turbos. I myself baby my car and still had a new turbo installed due to a rattle in the wastegate, along with a faulty ac compressor which was all covered under warranty with some slight hassle due to having a br350. I have considered selling my car several times, I love it yet I had a turbo civic that hung in much better. how do all the evo owners feel out there I guess.... or

I've had over 60k basically trouble free miles.

with regular maintainence and some level of mechanical sympathy for the vehicle the evo can be very reliable.

I feel the same way you do. I had several types of sports cars turbo, nitrous and supercharge that never gave me any problems. I do love my evo but it looks like they like to be more in the shop than in the street. One thing I hate about Mitsubishi is there warranties they suck. But still out of all my cars I like driving my evo better.

I beat on my Evo almost daily. Just over 35k miles and the only problem I've had was I roasted my stock clutch on a horrible launch.

I have 56k miles on my evo, loved every .1 mile of it! Evo has been the most reliable 4G63-powered car I've ever owned, hands down. I haven't had any issues with break downs or being stranded on the side of the road that were 'it just broke' type scenarios. I hit an ice chunk once that broke my crank pulley off, and I limped it (stupidly) to a station to get fixed. Other than that, being pro-active in maintenance like spark plug changes, plugwires, coolant, and drivetrain fluid changes, I have had very very good luck with my car, and I *NEVER* baby it

Mitsubishi is *very* hard to get warranty claims approved, so I've done most maintenance myself. I bought the car with 20k miles on it and have since built it into a 450hp monster with cams, alcohol injection, etc. I run 28psi on a stock IX turbo daily on the stock engine with arp headstuds (done 1x1 method 26k miles ago!). I have a decent list of mods, none of which was especially costly or compromised driveability.

I'm a previous dsm victim... Do you really want me to answer that question? lol

In my opinion, the evo is great for power and reliability. I'm like bboypuertoroc but hardly beat on it unless I have a reason to. My clutch going out is the only thing unplanned that has happened to me. Everything on the car has remained solid, strong, and healthy. I've always thought of the evo 8 and 9 to be the perfect car. Streetable, powerful, dependable, sporty, and plenty of room for groceries lol

I have 70k miles. I hadnt had any problems with mine until this past sunday when I blew a fuse under the hood. Cost 70 bucks to fix, luckily I got towed for free. Otherwise thats the only issue I have had. However, I drive almost all highway, and dont beat on it terribly hard in an attempt to save some gas. I love my car, but if I could sell it to be able to drive something more economical right now, I probably would.

i have 21k on my stock motor with big *** turbo 518hp right now and 0 problems. And i do beat on my car hard when i drive. I think as long as you maintain your car you should be good.

loved it till mine decided to kill its timing belt at 42000 miles.
hopefully I'll love it again and get a little better reliability when I'm done with my little build.

Heres the story:

2005 Evo VIII-80,256 miles on the odo.

Mods:

FP EVO GREEN 10.5
SS O2 housing
FP 18 psi wga
3 inch BR TBE
BR deluxe FMIC/ w lower pipe
Dejon 2.75 inc UICP
Tial BOV
1G DSM coil pack
NGK Wires
4 inch Dejon intake pipe
HKS 272/272 cams
AEM EMS w/3.5 bar map
1000cc FIC injectors
walbro 255
ARP headstuds
Forge MBC
Quarter Master Twin disk clutch with HPB
E85 tune on high boost/varies with temp

Some exterior stuff as well....NO warranty work has been done to the car because it hasnt broke....AT ALL except for the clutch slipping and that didnt ever fail. Stock tranny, t case, rear end....please do not flame me but I havent even changed the fluid in the rear end yet. The car gets driven 120 miles a day and when the track is open it sees LOTS of track time. I have TONS of 11 sec. slips with a best of 11.2@124 on a fifteen minute tune on its current set up. The car sees alot of street racing action as well when the track is closed. I think evos are the most durable car on the road if not INSANELY modified. My buddy has an 04 with more miles than me on the stock motor, sames mods except for a GT35R and runs 11.1@133 ON THE STOCK MOTOR! He races as much or more than me at the track!! I am a firm believer that if you dont get a lemon and you take care of it, have the right parts combo and a good tune etc....they will treat you right

I have 91,000+ miles on my '05 Evo MR. Puttting 380+whp to the ground. The only warranty issue was the plastic seat back on my driver's seat. The people who have "problems" with their Evos tend to be the ones who go through clutches like toilet paper.

Mine has been rock solid, I thought there was something wrong with it but it turned out I was getting used to the speed lol.

Only 11,000 miles, but it has seen a *few* HPDE track days.
